Amp people, help me please

Just the head? no cab? Style? Define lightweight?

You could get a new Ampeg PF500 for $400. 500 watts, good tonal variety, light, and pretty small. Also awesome tone that sounds as tubey as I've ever heard out of a solid state.
head only. Jazz/Fusion. under 15 lbs. And haha didn't mean it like that I'm not an amp person so was hoping that you amp smart people could give me a hand. Thanks

+1 on the PF stuff... Perhaps a Micro-VR, they're what, $300 new, and they can definitely do that thumpy/tubey SVT sound, and you don't have to dial in a growl. Otherwise maybe a Walkabout? Good luck finding a used one though.
I think the Micro-VR would be my suggestion though, because you can get it new in that budget, and it would be on warranty, and quite frankly, I like how it sounds.

I'll just mention (without wanting to ruffle any feathers) that I took home and compared both the PF-500 and the LittleMark III while I was looking for a head back in December, and found the LMIII had a lot more headroom - I was pushing both gain and master pretty high on the Ampeg to get the same volume out of it. I also preferred the MarkBass tone, but that's more of an individual preference.
Carvin BX500 I think you can get them for around $400 or less. I've never played one, but they are suppsed to be a pretty loud 500 watts. There is a thread on here about them. You can also get a Hartke LH500 in that price range it has plenty of volume I own one and really like it. I think it weighs about 15 to 20lbs.
Used Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0, with the new Shuttle 6.2 out now you shouldn't have too much trouble finding the 6.0 in your price range. There's a single tube in the pre, simple but awfully effective tone shaping options and some of the best CS in the biz!
I'll give the LH500 a +1, but they are relatively heavy especially if you put it in a rack, compared with the micro heads. The LH500 was the amp I had but was looking to replace last year.
I've been using the LMII for 5 or 6 years. It's fantastic. The gain controls the level for the DI.
G-K 700RB or 1001RB, just a bit more than 20 Lbs, but you get a lot of watts coming out into 4 Ohms and they are good sounding loud! ... For good tone at less volume IMHO buy a VT BASS pedal. Cheers.
In my opinion the GK amps sound way too digital. If you go that route I'd suggest playing through one first and seeing how it all sounds. I really like Markbass gear, but it seems to run a very high price and be in low supply. As I stated before, check into the Ampeg PF500.
I am one of the Amp People! I sold a Markbass Jeff Berlin when I got my Ampeg PF500. I absolutely love it. Lightweight and powerful enough for what I do with volume to spare.

To the op- U can get great deals on GB Shuttle 6.0/9.0 & they're GREAT amps. So handy & lovely tone & shaping eq options.
