Double Bass Amp position when using mic

I searched for this topic, couldn't find anything.

What's the best distance/position to place your amp when using a microphone? How can you best get maximum volume and avoid feedback?

Cool - just read your article Chris - very helpful. I really liked your section talking about EQing mic & pickup signals. I've always tried to EQ both signals so they sound good on their own - I will definitely take your advice to instead make the blended signal the best it can be.
