Amp recommendation for double 18" subwoofer

Hi, I have a pair of DAS 215 boxes that mount two 700 RMS Turbosound subwoofers each.

In total 1400 RMS per box at 4 ohms.

I'm looking for a power amplifier that works well for both boxes, I had thought about this one from thomann: https://www.thomann.de/es/the_t.amp_e_1500.htm
I don't know what you think or if you can recommend me another one that is not too expensive and can work well.

My assumption is someone replaced the original DAS drivers with Turbo Sound drivers. In order to know how much power the new drivers can handle, they must be modelled in the cab.

The RMS power rating is related to the thermal capacity of the voice coils. It's essentially the long term power the voice coils can handle without overheating. This number is only valid at higher frequencies where cone excursion is not a factor. So this number is no necessarily relevant to a subwoofer.

With subwoofers you also need to be concerned about mechanical power handling. Mechanical power handling is a function of how the driver tunes in the cabinet. If you put the same driver in a different tuning, the mechanical power handling will change. It might go up or it might go down. If the cab tuning is not appropriate for the drivers, mechanical power handling may be extremely low.

Even in a well designed sub, the mechanical power handling may be 1/2 or less of the driver's RMS power rating.

Before buying an amp, you need to figure out how the cabs' tune with the new drivers. The model should show you how much power the drivers will handle before exceeding Xmax.

18” drivers in a 215 box? If so and it actually fit, the porting surely needs to be adjusted.

My best guess, knowing which 18” driver you are talking about, you will find that the mechanical power handling is going to be roughly 500 watts rms per driver.

Are you looking to use this as a bass cabinet or a PA sub? As a bass cabinet, the mid voicing is going to be pretty awful, wrong tool for the job.
 
The specs of Turbosound and DAS speaker are quite similar.


Do you mean specs like impedance, sensitivity, and RMS power handling, or something else.

As I tried to indicate in my previous post, the RMS power rating is not a good indicator for how much power the driver will handle in the cab.

In order to see how the driver performs in the cab, you need to calculate the internal volume of the cab and document port dimensions. These detail are inputted in a modeling program, along with Thiele & Small parameters shown in the right column. The modeling program crunches the numbers and spits out graphs that show you a variety of expected performance parameters such as: frequency response, cone excursion, impedance variation, port velocity, group delay, etc. Both driver specs and the resulting model are used to estimate mechanical power handling. Change the cab tuning, and it changes how the driver will perform.

I assume @agedhorse suggestion that of these drivers will handle 500W is under the assumption the cab tuning is suitable for the driver...this is not guaranteed if you simply dropped a random driver in the cab, without seeing how well the driver models in the cab.

Wow I didnt know about all of this, thanks for the info. What you suggest to do, should I change the drivers and replace for originals or how can I adapt the new drivers to the cab? Or adapt cab to new drivers?
 
Look up TS parameters. Lots of good info.

If you post the cabinet’s total internal volume, the number of ports, the port diameters and depth, maybe one of us can run the numbers. If a rectangular port, we need the dimensions.
