Amp RECOMMENDATION Needed.....

I've had both the shuttle 6.0 and now the Streamliner 600, imo there is no comparison, the Streamliner kills it. Very versatile, lots of power. I've used 2-1x12 rigs before and believe that you'll do best if you get a second identical cab.

Welcome to the dark side of bass and this forum, btw. There are alot of very knowledgeable people here (not counting myself among them!) and all are very generous with time and willingness to help.

Your story reminds me that my only regret in the purchase of my GK MB500 is that I didn't fully investigate the MB Fusion. It's the same amp, but with a tube preamp stage. I wonder how good it is at hotting up the signal a bit the way I like.

Yeah I played my old MB Fusion that I sold to a buddy last night. Really made me wish I'd never gotten rid of it.

Since what the OP is striving for is essentially what I have now ( Markbass CMD 151P Jeff Berlin signature combo which has the Markbass LMIII amp head built in and a matching NY151 extension cab ) would something like that be of use in his situation?

A side note on wattage since the subject was raised ... the 2 power guidelines I go by is "1 tube watt = 3 solid state watts" and "bass needs 3 times whatever the guitar player has just to keep up". So if your guitar player has a 45 watt tube amp I would get a 450 Watt SS amp or a 150 Watt tube amp... And enough cabs to fully utilize What the amobcan produce.

Also, There are exceptions to those "guidelines" especially when dealing with older solid state amps - those often rocked!

Enough cabinetry, for sure. It won't help you to push 350 solid state watts into a 2x10 cab. A guitar player can and will blow you into next week with his 50w 1x12 combo amp.

In searching the forum and reading about the different amps that I am considering, I noticed that a number of players who own the Ampeg PF500 mention the "Ampeg Sound". What is that sound and how does it differ from GB - GK - MarkBass - etc?

Warmer, thicker, not quite so clean and clear. Like mimicking an old b15 or svt tube amp.

I always think of GK as a) "hi-fi" with sparkly highs, hyper-articulated mids and clear lows and/or b) having throaty, growly mid tones when cranked, especially when you really dig in attack-wise.

I think of Ampeg as .. not that. I wouldn't even consider Ampeg unless I was looking for all-tube.

Your mileage will, of course, vary.
