Amp Recommendations

Heading out to Long & McQuade music sometime in the next 2 weeks for amp shopping. I have around $600-700 to spend on an amp and was wondering if there were any specific amps that are good for this price range. I need good overall performance, I will be playing mostly Progressive Rock/Metal and some Death Metal and Technical Metal. I am looking for an amp with a wide range of tones to choose from. Any input whatsoever would be greatly appreciated:D

I was going to post a similar thread soon, asking about new amp recommendations that would work well for tech death metal.
I love the way tube amps usually sound, but I've been thinking lately that they're just too much stress and hassle. For this style, would you guys recomend tube or solid state (which would include hybrid), and why specifically?
I know that Alex Webster of cannibal corpse has been known to use an svt-4 pro and ampeg fridges. Any input.

(I don't mean to jack your thread matthiasss, just trying to get some more help)

I would check out Carvin.com before heading out to L&McQ. Their shipping to Canada is excellent and they pay the import duties saving you 14%. You doo have to pay a higher shipping cost but it is much less of a hassle than dealing with UPS. For the money you have you could get a B1500 bass amp capable of 1900W.
