Amp restoration..Help!

So hey everybody, here's the deal...I stole this Carvin PB100 amp off the local Craigs List. Its in pretty good shape, and its the 15" 100 watt job. Sounds pretty good for a practice amp, which is why I bought it. Only in it $85 bux so Im pretty happy with that also! Problem is, it dont look too hot. Its covered in that fuzzy carpety looking stuff stock from Carvin, but its pretty Ratty, and I was thinking I might want to recover it to make it a bit more asthetically appealing. Looks like it was a cats scratching post on one side, but a recovering would make it look brand new again. Only problem is, I dont have any idea how to go about it. I found many sites that deal in many varieties of tolex, tweeds, etc. And actually recovering it isnt that tough. Im concerned about getting it down to bare wood.
Anybody done this before?. Tips? Tricks? Allow me to draw from you experience!

you need a really good adhesive remover, a paint scraper, an electric sander unless you want to sand all day, 0000 steel wool, lacquer thinner, and rubber gloves.

put the adhesive remover on and let it soak in, scrape off with the paint scraper until you get it down to bare wood, then when you've got the bulk of the glue off, sand it until it's all gone, then clean with steel wool and lacquer thinner. but it all has to come off, otherwise the new stuff won't stick. make sure you get all the black stuff out of the wood grain, too.

whatever's most expensive at the hardware store. the more expensive it is, without fail it's always better and cuts through quicker and easier.

+1. You have nothing to lose trying to improve the ratty carpet and you can always remove it if it doesn't work. I've taken care of cat scratches with a beard trimmer and you seriously could not tell the carpet had ever been damaged.

Before you go through this procedure remove the speakers and put them in a safe place. You don't want any crud betting into them.

Yes, thanks! Never woulda thought of that. Evened it right up. Not to say I wont eventually replace it. Noticed a significant amount of loosness all over. It appears to just be glued at the edges. May come off with incredible ease. It would look HAWT with a nice new Tweed skin.
