Amp settings, ohms ect when running two big cabs??

I'm keeping my SVT 7pro as a backup and going back to power/pre setup. I need to be able to run 2 SVT 810 cabs if needed with a single power amp preferably.

Obviously I can just go stereo and plug each side at 4 ohm into each 810. That's easy. I also assume that 800-1000 watts of Crest, Crown, QSC power would be louder than my 1000 watts of 7pro no?


My actual question is can I daisy chain the cabs? My 810AV reissue has two 1/4" mono inputs and two speakon inputs. My slightly older SVT CL810 only has two 1/4" inputs IIRC.

If I ran out of the amp into a mono input on my 810AV then out of the other mono jack into my 810CL would this work? And if so would it now be at 2 ohm?

Its probably a noob question but I've never had to deal with this before.

CL has ably answered your interconnect question. :)

As for your fist statement: no is the correct answer. The power amp will not significantly add to your volume. The difference will be basically inaudible. In order to get twice as loud as you are now you would have to increase your power level by a factor of ten. More speakers trumps more power every time.

Regarding the "noob" question, no question honestly asked is foolish in any way. Foolish is the question that was not asked. If in doubt please post the question - it's for that reason most of us are here for. :)
 
Yes, running your cabs chained like that is parallel so it would present a 2 Ohm load to your amp. You will NOT be able to run your amp bridged into two 4 ohm cabs, but you would be able to run them both off of one side, or one off of each side.

No I know I cant run bridged at 4 ohm for two cabs. I would run 4 ohm stereo. One cab per side.
But if I daisy chain the cabs and create a 2ohm load I could run bridged @ 2ohm correct?

No, you can not run the amp bridged at 2 Ohms. You can run either/both sides at 2 Ohms, but not bridged at 2 Ohms.

if the two cabinets daisy chained together create a 2ohm load and im only going with a single out from the amp then what difference would it make if it was bridged or not as long as the amp is seeing 2ohms?

again, forgive my noobness on the subject but seems that the only difference between bridged and running out of one side (provided both would be at 2ohms) would be a 1000 watts vs 3000watts (just as an example)

Let me repeat this slowly.

Your. Amp. Can. Not. Bridge. At. 2. Ohms!

It will damage your amp!


You can run both cabs off of one side in parallel (daisy chained), or one off of each side. There is no way to get the full bridge power through your two cabs.
 
Stereo power amps dont work like that, for example most digital pa amps are quite specific over what loads they are comfortable with. Here we go most amps per side can be driven down to 2ohms however bridged they are only recommended down to 4ohms. Ebay is full of dead amps for sale that were probably used incorrectly, treat an amp properly and dont expect it to do stupid things and it should last for years.
