Amp Settings - styles

Gday guys/gals,

newbie basshead, previous 6 stringer of 12 yrs

just bought a bassman250.............. sounds awesome.

original band plays rock / modern rock ......
im looking for amp settings for different sounds as im not fully understanding of all bass amp terminology.......:crying:

so any hints/tips on how to get good rock / metal sounds ?

ive not had much time to fiddle around with the amp as i leave it @ my rehearsal space but im hoping i can get in early and play around

dear august grey,
you should know, or decide before you touch the knobs, what ist your personality sound wise.
that depends on your playing style:
when you like it more melodic playing and you play more than less notes, you should have not too much bass. the goal would be to make your bass sing.... and that is the domain off the mid freguencies- deep and high mids: 300-800 low mids and 800 to 2 k high mids. if you play perfect and without mistakes you can have more high frequencies ( see leland sklar) if not better leave the sound a little covered. ( strong treble or high reveal all mistakes...)
if you want a fat deep sound, think of playing less notes and concentrate on laying the fundament than to sing..... the bass drum is your best friend and collegue here, play along with it and try to diminish the lower mids. so your sound is less concrete but has more balls...... and opens the sound to deepenes....
in other words: no amp or box is perfect !!!! if you want deep bass then the low mids would eat up the power from your gear.
for the treble same than before: when youre a good player you can turn in some here.

ok. when youre more in splapping you will have the percussive tone, that means your tone will be short and hard by nature. thats good because you cann have a lot of deep end even when you play a lot of notes. the high mids...... around 600 to 1,5 khz are youre friend here ( depends on style ...) but look at flea his slapping is somewhat nosy, and thats what these frequencies do. .......

ok. i hope this got you some inspiration.
good luck.
