so after much deliberation I'm settled in with my Ampeg SVT 7 pro. Love it. Does what I want it to do (which is sound articulate, warm, and good).
On to my cabs- main gigging cab is a Bergantino 4-10 HD. Pretty much brand new. Thing sounds great (for the most part). I don't know if any of you guys have this cab but I hear a little hole in the lows- mids are fantastic, and there is a depth to the low notes (tuned low E), but on the low notes (E through Ab on the E string) it lack a little thickness. It's there, and the low mids are burly, but it doesn't kick you in the face, regardless of EQ.
That being said- it's a great cab- sounds super warm with the 7 pro, and get's plenty loud, just lacks a little thickness down low when really pushed.
What I'm thinkin-
I've got a bad back. There, I said it. I can't drag around my 8-10 anymore, although I have one in my garage. I also have a Genz Benz 2-15 XB (never really liked it) in my garage. I gigged a GK 1001 RB 2-10 combo (which I still have and still use as a practice amp) for years and that little bastard kicked hard. At the end of the day I'm thinking a proper 2 X 10 could handle a lot of what I do professionally....
SO my quandary-
Keep the Berg 4-10. Snag a 2-10 for smaller gigs. Bummer that the Berg is 4 ohm so I can't really stack the two for bigger gigs with the 7 pro (4 ohm), or can I?
Or- get rid of the Berg 410 and get two 2-10s to stack for mid sizes shows and bring a single for small gigs? I can keep the Ampeg 8-10 for the monster outdoor gigs (keep in mind I don't play hard rock and metal- more blues, singer songwriter, country, funk, reggae etc.)
For what it's worth the 4-10 is a pain to load. I typically am loading by myself and it's purtty heavy and awkward. I think I'd rather load two smaller cabs than one big one (especially with the rock cart).
Thoughts? And feel free to spout your favorite cabs (especially 2-10s or 2-12s). I've looked at everything out there but without playing them it's a tough call. Many go nuts on the Berg but I find them lacking a little tiny bit in some frequencies. Give me your thoughts- I appreciate it greatly!!
