Amp Slaving for Royal Blood Tone...

Hey all,

Considering buying a micro terror to amp slave into my SVT 7 Pro for a distorted sound I can A-B-Y between when playing shows, kinda like the royal blood thing.

Question is, my ampeg has an FX blend control so I can 'mix' between the ampeg clean tone and incoming terror dirty tone - do I need to get the micro dark and use the FX out into my FX in, or can I use the headphone out of the normal terror into the FX in??? Is there a difference in output voltages??

Anyone tried this or have any experience, surprising lack of info on amp slaving out there... cheers!

Oh for sure, got a couple octave pedals and stacks of guitar and bass effects, but without the amp sound you just dont seem to get anywhere near that tone

There are two ways I would go about doing it, so don't take my response as the defacto way to accomplish this. You are wanting to use the preamps of both amps, so this could be tricky if you are going to slave them. Usually you'd want to slave them if you going to use one primary amp for the tone shaping, and the other for power and output.

1. You can use an ABY pedal and run one bass into both inputs.
2. Use an bass amp with dual channels that has a blend. Problem is not alot of amps have a blend that sound that good. IMO. (Note: Ampeg SVP-BSP has a really good blend of it's two channels. However, might not get the sound your looking for.)
3. Get a preamp pedal (not fuzz or distortion pedals parading as a "preamp") and run it into your FX loop. Set the preamp to taste and blend in your tone.

In my limited experience, getting a good tone using two amps live can be a chore. Getting a good blend in the studio usually pans out pretty good. I'd like to hear some other thoughts on this matter.

Since discovering this video I was planning on building two pedal boards (and MAYBE plugging them together)

Besides, I got all of the pedals covered.
