AMP STAND ??

I am getting a Schroeder 1210 cab in a trade and I am wondering if anyone has used a small cab like this or similar on a till back amp stand. I play in a group where we are having issues with stage volume (outrunning the PA) and I was just curious if anyone has tried using a stand. Not to mention getting my amp so low on the floor as to being able to see the control panel. Thought I might get some opinions. Thanks....Dave

My experience is most commercial amp stands aren't deep enough to safely hold bass cabs - they are primarily designed to hold guitar combos. You could certainly build yourself one, though.

You will find that the mid voicing of the 1210 makes it very easy to hear when placed on the floor, even when standing right on top of it IMO and IME.

I always use an amp stand on stage. I have an Ampeg B100R, which has a line out. That goes into a channel in the PA mixer, and the amp itself serves as a monitor. This avoids the bass muddying up the vocals in the main monitors.

I can't stand it if I use a single bass cab and it's not on the floor. I need to hear those low freqs bouncing off the floor or the bass sounds like a banjo to me. The audience may not notice the difference but I do.

Where do you put your head (amp) when using a tilt-back stand for the cabinet?

I use a milk crate with 2 "V's" cut out of the sides. It holds my MB 121pcmd combo amp or my Avatar SD112 cabinet. Light, cheap and it can hold cables.

Some users like to stand the 1210 sideways, so the angled speaker baffle is pointing upward. Supposedly it helps when you have to stand very close to the speaker.

I have been meaning to get one for a while now. Breaks down very small, adjustable height, adjustable for your cabs footprint. Plus, I like the fact that it doesn't angle the cab back. That way the tone actually projects into the house instead of toward the rafters.

Ive been using a 1210 for two years now and have never had a problem hearing myself on stage. In fact this is the only cab i have owned where the guitarist tells me im too loud over on his side of the stage.
As others have said, If you use the 1210 on its side with the 12" driver closest to the floor you will find the tweeter then points right up at your head (or upper torso at least) and that allows very quiet on stage volume but still being able to hear yourself.

I have a 1212L that's going to be delivered today. I plan to use it on it's side with the angled speaker and tweeter on top. I was originally planning to add a spring-loaded handle on the side that I consider the bottom, to help angle it upward (similar to the SWR Redhead and Ampeg Portabass 210). Based on what Kjung is saying as well as other post that I've read, this won't be neccessary (not to mention an angled amp stand), especially with the speaker on it's side. I have a gig tonight, so I'll let you know what I think tomorrow.

I built my own box to put my cab on.

Quite sturdy, and it doubles as a misc. gear container on load in/outs.

The sound isn't changed much by the presence of the stand. It's still acoustically coupled to the floor (when I'm not using the gramma pad) and close enough to the floor for the boundary reinforcement (acoustic) of the floor to work. It does raise the speaker enough to help me hear myself though.

This is really nice to get so much response on a question. I spoke with Schroeder last nite, he said for me to no stand the cab on its side, anyway I am going to try a rack stand over the cab and see if I can get that to work for now....Dave

i have a amp stand,that the grids on it slant or you can turn them and the cabinet is straight but still up as high as a 610 cabinet would stand, you do loose some bottom but you will cut through the mix and you will hear it

I have propped my 1212R up with a small efffects box. Works remarkably well. The speakers are more inline with my ears. I tried the milkcrate thing, but I cut the angle wrong. Then I tried a small box my Boss Tuner came in and it works quite well.
