Ampeg 210av cab or Orange OBC-112 vs BA115HP combo

Hi all,

I currently have an Ampeg BA115HP that I got used probably 10 years ago and it's been amazing. I also have an older BA110 which was my first amp that I'm possibly donating to a local music store for their teachers. I've been thinking of selling the BA115HP for a small setup in the house as I guess I'm more of a hobbyist and don't play with anyone or do any gigs.

I have a Warwick Gnome i amp on preorder so I have a great bass friendly interface for my laptop (my Apogee Jam+ doesn't really like my active pickups) and I've toying with the idea of getting a cabinet to pair up with the Gnome if the BA115HP were to go.

That being said, I've been looking at the Ampeg 210av a lot but also came across the Orange OBC-112 as well; maybe even a Mark Bass New York 121 now that I think about.

I'm curious to hear from owners or those who have used the cabinets about their experiences and thoughts on them, or even recommendations for cabinets; or am I better off just hanging on the BA115HP combo?

If it helps at all, I have a Warwick Corvette active and Ibanez SRSC805 and I'd like something that really voices the capabilities of those two basses between rock, funk, metal, etc.

I'm not sure what Guitar Center is doing for covid right now but I do know I should carve out some time to bring my bass in and try some of these but feel like I should have my Gnome first, right?

So far the Gnome i has been pretty good.

I first started using it with just headphones and the sound is good, very quiet (no interference noise), and has great tone. When I first hooked it up to my laptop it was good however once I launched Bias FX or Amplitube, I start to get this annoying higher pitch constant hum - Zzounds swapped it after I complained as I initially went back and forth with Warwick on the issue and they said the retailer should swap it; I was 9 days outside of the return policy. Once I got the new one I had the same issue with computer and it's very odd because my Apogee Jam Plus doesn't make this noise. I've tried fiddling with settings in Audio but no luck.

I ended up selling my BA115HP and picked up a MarkBass Traveler 102p 4ohm 2x10 cabinet and now have the Gnome sitting on it. At the moment I just use the Gnome with the cabinet, and use my Jam Plus on the laptop.

The Gnome is LOUD with this cabinet, and I mean if I put the volume past 1 it's pumping out a lot of volume shockingly enough. If I remember right, at 4ohm it's a 200w head and this cab is 400w rated.

I'm happy with the sound of the Gnome just wish I could figure out the noise on my laptop because it handles hot pickups really well - I have a Warwick Corvette Active and the active pickups w/active preamp have lots of power behind them and I have no problems with the Gnome.

I'm not clear on your signal path. How are you connecting your bass and laptop to the Gnome?

I connected the Gnome to my laptop with the USB cable that came with it - remember the Gnome i and Gnome i Pro are USB interfaces as well. I've tried the cable Warwick provides and another aftermarket one and still get the annoying frequency once a DAW is launched. If I plug into an amp or just a pair of headphones without plugging into my laptop I don't have this problem.
