ampeg 2x15

has anyone had a chance to use one of these or had experiance with them, i have always kinda preferred 10's....but i stumbled on a used 2x15 cab for a price i pretty much can't refuse and would like some feedback on this cab...I will be driving it with a GK1001rb....i play in a few different cover bands 70's-80's classic rock stuff mainly....not allot of effects, use a sans amp bddi, some compression, envelope filter EHbassballs....help me out here thanks!

Buy it. It looks like its in great condish. How much are you looking at? If its around 300-400 I say jump on it. If not, try to bargain or move on. If this is the case, I say find a Peavey Black Widow loaded 2x15. I got mine for around 250, and when used with my Yamaha BBT500, I get LOTS of compliments on my tone. It can handle any abuse you throw at it, and will still sound amazing. Great lows, and can get relatively SVTish.

I opened for a band where the guy had that exact same described setup. All vintage Ampeg, an 8x10 and 2x15 run through old Ampeg tube amp with a Sansamp style pre amp pedal and a Russian Big Muff Pi. He also had 3 Gibson Thunderbirds with him. That was without a doubt a wall of sound. Cut through a Marshall half stack like a hot knife through butter.

okay easy does it fellas---i don't have a vintage Ampeg tube amp :hmm: and i don't have an 8x10E cab to run in next too, :hmm:

i got a GK1001rb that i will be using with a sans amp bddi maybe a double muff, some bassball and compression.....

will i get punch and some clarity, with those 15's?? i don't a murky; muddy all bottom end sounding tone......:confused:

Everyone here has different representation of punch and clarity. If you are talking about the punch & clarity of 10" speakers, you will NOT get this tone with the 2x15. 2x15's are for players who like heavy low end and not a lot of midrange. There will be decent high end, though. You really need to try out the cab with your own gear and see if you like it. The 2x15 is different beast when compared to 410's.

I think its a cool cab, if it sounds good and is priced around $400,
I'd do some serious thinking myself.
If you decide get it, this cab may end up being your gate-way drug,
to purchasing a nice tube amp, to go along with it.
