Opinionated blowhard. But not mad about it.

So, is it an HLF with slightly different aesthetics?

The one I'm looking at is SLM era.

Anyone know how long they were made? When they were made?

Any thoughts on how they sound? I'm assuming pretty much HLF territory. A lot of fridge with a little more boom maybe?

One source online said they were only made for a year. Another said his was a 2005. So, if they are both correct, they were made sometime in the 2004-2006 time frame.

I kinda Googled around a bit, but there isn't a ton of info on them.

I don't know a lot about them. I have a very good friend in Nashville that had a pair of them in road cases he was trying to get rid of. I've never played through one but I know enough pro guys that have to assume its a real box.

One concern with the 610 that the replacement speakers or recone kits could be more difficult to find down the road than those used in the more popular 810. They use a series-parallel wiring with six ohms speakers to yeild 4 ohms nominal.

The speakers are available, last time I looked they were $94 each.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this cab was retired from Ampeg’s current line.

My 610 with AV grill cloth from flip tops. This one is a Loud version as it’s uses plywood rather then the SLM chipboard construction.

As JimmyM said...they sound very close to an 810 cab; the newer ones a bit brighter and the older ones a bit darker in tone. I’ve giged a 610 for many years, switched to an 810 this past year. I really like the extra 210’s closer to my ears. Just last night I giged an SLM era 610 again and I was amazed at just how much more the 610 filled out the bottom than my 810 cab. My band mates were really digging the 610 with the added lows. I run the horn always off but I do feel the 610 has a slight more modern feel than the 810. Anyways, it’s a great cabinet!
