Ampeg 810 into a 4-door Civic

Dear virtual bassists friends,

You know the drill... you get your tax return, plus a raise and your kids are slowly leaving the house, plus some free time lurking on TB... you imagine things, like getting a new rig, an Ampeg rig, fridge included. Perfect for the summer gigs. Not that my actual rig is not ok but you know, I'm 52, in good shape, recently converted to P bass... why not?

The only issue is my actual car, a 2017 honda civic lx, 4 doors. My tape measure says it fits, very tight, but it fits.

Anyone here carry the fridge in their small car?

A pair of 210s stacked vertically comes as close as you can get to a Fridge, with even better horizontal dispersion, and is a lot easier on you back to carry and your car to pack.

Thanks Rick but I am looking for the real Ampeg rig at this time. If it doesn't fit, I might go with a pair of cabs or a 212... or a bigger car or SUV

FWIW, I can get a 7'4' surfboard into my 2007 civic with the back seats down and passenger seat forward.

Get a pair of Ampeg 210s that use the same driver as the SVT.

He wants to put a gallon of water into a two quart jug. Bad idea. If in doubt he can go to an appliance store, get a big cardboard carton, cut and tape it to the size of an SVT and see if it fits, and then imagine trying to get it in the car if its a hundred pounds heavier.

Exactly! But we are in TB land after all. everybody shimes in with their own opinion and I'm fine with that

When I bought mine I had a Toyota Tacoma, No Prob, now I drive a VW Golf and it has not left the studio.

I was able to fit an upright bass, a 310 cab, a bass in its hardcase, an amp, a pedalboard, a bag full of cables, a 12-inch power speaker and a cowboy hat in my car.

Not wanting to rain on your parade, but even if it does fit, getting it in and out of the car will tear up the car's interior, IMO.

Find one locally and see if it will fit. No more certain way than to try it yourself. Worst case scenario is that you could rent one from a backline company for a day. You wouldn't be out much money and would have an absolutely concrete answer not only as to whether or not it will fit, but also as to whether you can manage getting it in and out of your car (assuming it fits), if you're comfortable with the wear and tear it will do to your car's interior, and whether or not you think an alternative option would be more suitable for your needs both sonically and functionally.

I’ve had 810 SVTs fit in both 2 door (MK 1 & 3) and 4 door (MK 4) VW Golfs with the rear seat folded down, no problem, except once when I didn’t have the cab pushed forward far enough and shattered the rear hatch glass of my GTI when I closed it down on the SVT’s towel bar.

This. Your tape measure can tell you one thing, but nothing about what kind of English you might need to put on that fridge to get it in and out of your Civic. Also getting it in may be easier than getting it out (or vice versa).
