I haven't had an issue with my SVT tolex, but I had a couple of Genz Benz Focus cabinets and if you brushed them against ANYTHING, they would scratch.

Ampeg 8x10: should I buy it?

It has rails on the back. Tilt back and slide it up. More strength is required lifting a 410.
I find an 8x10 easier to move (my Marshall VBC810 has tiltback wheels) than leaning forwards and lifting/carrying my 4x10, so long as it's mostly flat ground.
I carry mine in a Toyota HiLux 4x4 on the back seat, just align it sideways with the door and push it over and slide it in on the back seat.
My cab has metal slide rails on each side of the back, so you can roll it up to the stage and lean it back and slide it up onto the stage.
The 4x10 kills my back trying to waddle like a duck carrying it to the wagon, and it seems to gain weight towards the end of the gig.

Yeah the Heritage tolex is softer than Ampeg's standard tolex which is that nubby tolex and is more durable. The Heritage (and the Ampeg AV cabs) have a softer tolex that is similar to the Genz Benz, looks pretty but doesn't take abuse well. The day I bought my 810 I bumped the door rolling it out of the music store and ripped it. That was the first of many.
just makeu sure you REALLY check that all the speakers are good. I've bought two bad used 810s that I didn't even notice had blown speakers when I was trying them out. Give it a really thorough test run testing out the lowest possible frequencies.
I always found the 8x10 to be easy to move and load unless I had stairs to traverse. Then of course my band mates would help. If you do buy this cab be sure every speaker works and or check the impedance with an ohm meter. Get a cheap multi meter at radio shack or home depot. 20-30 dollars. read the instructions for checking the impedance then bring a speaker cable to the guys place. The cabinet should ohm out at 4 ohm's. or 3.4 ohms. something in that range. If its higher than 4 ohm's then consider passing on it, it may have blown speakers. then your looking at repairs.
