Ampeg and Trace second hand

I just found an Ampeg-rig and a Trace-rig on a swedish sescond hand site, and I need some advice. The Trace is a V8 with a 1x15 and a 2x10 cab. He wants about $2.200 for it. I currently have Trace amp (AH250) and like it alot, though it's not as loud as I need it to be in some situations. I have both gain and master set at 3 o'clock, see...

The Ampeg is an older SVT3 and a cheap 4x10 (not Ampeg). Is the SVT3 just a preamp? He wants about $1.200 for the head and another $75 for the cab. Is any of them worth it and which is the better deal?

I hear that the V8 is the holy grail of amplifiers. I have no idea about the exchange rate to determine if the cost is appropriate.

I can't comment on the prices as I too do not know the current exchange rates.

However, that Trace V8 stack will be so loud you would have to be careful not to drown out the rest of the band! Killer tone with killer volume.

The SVT3 won't be any louder than the AH250 you already have IMO. Do a search here at TB to see what I'm talking about.

Yeah- you will have no problem reselling the Trace at the same price I'm sure (if you end up not liking it)- they are very rare! The Ampeg, on the other hand, is fairly common to find used and may be harder to get rid of (also- I had one and found it to be very weak volume-wise).

I have a V4 and whilst it is good if you believed all the hype you'd probably be disappointed.

V8 v SVT3? There really is no comparison. I'll bet it will go very soon.

The Trace V-8 is an all tube head whereas the SVTIII is a hybrid, am I correct? I've never played a V-8 but the SVTIII was nothing to write home about, IMHO.

Mine is 200 watts and is the newer version with the compressor and OD channel.

Look on the bright side - less tubes to replace than a V8.

The only downside I find is the simple style EQ which is interactive and can be frustrating.

3 PRO is a nice amp, but even I would take the Trace ALL -TUBE over the Ampeg! I don't even know what Trace sounds like, but I can't stand hybrid or solid state amps anymore. Go all-tube and you will get the volume you need.

The trace kicks ampegs but , but i think the price hes asking is to much . You can se trace gear at blocket for very less cash , so its a little over priced IMO. I know you where looking for ebs before , and the trace will give you that punchy ebs tone but with tube warmth. Cant go wrong,

Personally no, I wouldn't. I love both their SS and tube amps. That's why I own both!

Ah, trust me, 200 "tube" watts is plenty to play most venues unless you are playing to a 2,000+ audience outdoors.

My QuatraValve is 200 watts and it is brutally loud for it's wattage with my 215 cab. The key is to use more speaker area to increase your volume if you really need it. Instead of using just a 410, add another 410 or 115 or 212.

The V8 is a stunning piece of kit. I'd jump on that if I were you! I was at work the other day and the bassist with the band was using a Hexavalve head and it just sounded thunderous. If the V8 is anything like that it'll blow your socks off!
