Ampeg AV questions

Hey thanks in advance for your help, i've been reading more and more about tube amps lately and today before rehersal i decided i'd stop by long and mcquade to see if i could rent one... The only one available was the ampeg av so i took it. I knew 20 mins into rehersal that i was really diggin it.. Through my Bergantino ht-112 and my bag end 15 its super warm and i can feel every note which i think is important...im basically just wondering what the main differences are between the the AV and the Classic...also im trying to get a little bit of grit to the sound but i cant seem to make it distort ive been told you need to turn them up super loud but i cant turn any louder in my bands mix...any help/comments or opinions are welcome, thanks

AV & CL are the same amp except for cosmetic colors & grillcloth etc... SVT VR is the one similar to early '70's ones AFAIK. SVT2PRO has a drive control & is similar but rack mount, but is still 300w ALL TUBE!!! Depending on HOW LOUD U need to be the Ampeg V4 V4B/ BH are a 100w all tube amp-similar sounds but less headroom & can get the POWERAMP overdrive at a FAR easier volume!

right on! thank you both for the clarification. i remember we had an AV in the store for a few moments, and then they just disappeared! didn't really get a chance to check it out.

but man, oh man do i LOVE my VR! one channel's set for "clean" and the other is cranked all the way. children cry and kittens die when they're both on!
