Ampeg B-15n help dating

Hey guys just walked in my local music shop and there was a B15 in the corner. They took in on trade, it played and sounded great. Priced @ $1499.
Thinking about making an offer, they wasn’t sure what year it was. Just wondering if any body here (jimmyM) might know the year or any other helpful info to look for.

The Magnavox era of Ampeg ran from 1971 to 1980. To narrow the date down more you would probably need to get the EIA code off of one of the pots. You could also check the code on the speaker (which would be easier) but that would assume that it was the original speaker and hadn't been switched out. The number you are seeing on the jack plate is the part # of the plate. The serial # would have been printed on a label attached to the plate. It is very common for the label to be missing from these and other cabinets (SVT, etc.) from this era.

That’s a very good price. I’d move on it ASAP. It looks to he in good condition. Negatives are unnecessary circuits mods, a non standard speaker. It’s a tube based model with a thiele based cab. For that era, age doesn’t really matter, they are all good. You can determine that at home by opening it.

Do a sniff test to see if it smells like cat pee or something that you wouldn’t want in the home.
