Ampeg B2 Combo?

I have been trying to sell my Fender BXR 300C combo locally. A guy this weekend is asking to trade an Ampeg B2 combo for it. How are those? Good resale? Not too much info online about them as they're discontinued.

Looking to recoup at least $225 from either but not getting any takers on my Fender....which is as heavy as a small Volswagon, unfortunately.

The B-2 is underpowered and even though it say's 350 watts through an extension cabinet, don't believe it. It does produce a good tone though. I found it to be versatile for what it is and I liked using mine. What kind of music are you playing? How loud do you need to be? -Luke

Thanks Luke. My limited experience with Ampeg combo's mirrors your statements.

I'm actually looking to sell my Fender BXR300C combo or trade locally for the Ampeg B2 to sell that.....if it'll allow me to recoup more $ then the Fender being it's newer and doesn't weigh close to 90 lbs. Sounds like I might not get too much for the Ampeg either.

I have 2 b2r heads and a b3. I love the tone and there is plenty of power for me. But I do not have the combo amp version. I run my b2 or b3 into 4 10s normally and for bigger gigs I get pa support.

I have and use the 15 inch speaker combo version. It's inherent tone is okay, but with a Tech 21 Sansamp Bass driver or the newer VT pedal in the effects loop, and seasoned to taste, it sounds great! I also have a Saint Louis era SVT15E cab to add to it for those bigger gigs. I did a July 4th weekend gig last year with no p.a. support outdoors, and it did the job very well with that rig. By itself, you might find it's power rating at 200 watts to be a little bit overly optimistic. It's a good and serviceable combo if one can get one on the cheap like I did. It does have a nice XLR out that has been great for those occasions where I can send to the p.a. for FOH volume, while retaining a more pleasing stage volume, with or without monitor support depending on the situation. It's also a heavy combo, but mine came with casters, and the sturdy Ampeg side handles make it not such a bad load to tote around.

I've owned it for 15 years. Great little amp. No not stupid loud, but it is "loud". Not a gigging amp unless pa support, or a band that's not super loud. I played a lot of backyard acoustic BBQ with it.

The last few years it didn't have as much oomph. Needed a cap job. I blew it up 6 months ago with my synth, but holy he'll I'm telling you the cab sounds like god with those super low freqs. I'm gonna get it repaired.

For my rock stuff I'm playing walkabouts and an ampeg v4bh. Never getting rid of b2.

Not to jump off subject, but what kind of speakers are those 8's? I've only seen one picture of that combo, never in person. I hear it's a cool amp though. -Luke

IMO the Fender BXR 300C is a better combo than the B3. Unfortunately, lots of other people dont appreciate them due to the combo cab being as heavy as is. I always loved having that variable mid sweep on mine, and thought it was built "Ford Tough". Really put out some deep low end. Nowadays youre probably not going to find many takers for either amp unfortunately.

Oh, the B2 is as loud as you'll ever need it...

Personally, I love the tone, too. It'll get as aggressive as you could want and it's more unique than the ubiquitous SVT sound. Ride the gain hard and you'll get a nice, tight, subtle grind- not like a flabby 12ax7 overdriving.
