Ampeg B2R no volume, low sound that is distorted

Saw another post regarding this, but there was no conclusion.

Bought a used B2R Saturday. Worked great in testing, worked great for about 20 minutes once set up at home. Then......

1) Volume is very quiet, and the volume/gain knobs do not affect the volume, it is at the same level always (almost inaudible)
2) Hiss does increase when increasing volume.
2) Limit Light flashes with every touch of the string
3) All sound that does come out of the amp is distorted.

I tested all cables, fuse, new battery in active bass, etc. Pulled the case off the amp to look for obvious solder breaks, or fired components. No issues seen, and no electrical fried smell.

Curious if anyone has had this issue on an amp before and what the resolution was.

Yes, the fan turns on as soon as the amp is turned on.

I tried a couple other items last night (plugged passive bass in, guitar in, and ran a cable from the loop send and return ((same cable - read about this on another forum)) which made no changes.

The seller has offered to work out a return of $, or to be for the repair depending on the cost. I can find this amp farely cheap used, so I'll have to see what a repair would cost.

Okay...mine had a fan issue and would overheat having the same issues you are having. That was a cheap repair. With all of the new stuff out there, I would return it and put your money towards an Ampeg PF-350 or 500. They sound great.

This is old post but see if anyone still reads. Im working on a b2r with same issue. Fan wasnt working. I replaced fan and now volume is working but the sound is still distorted.
Did anyone fix this issue

Check tests points for the opamp power supply make sure your at 16 volts

then again usual candidates like dirty grounds to the boards or effects loop cleaning.

probably check output devices if one was lost in overheating, id assume it fail closed keep the fault relay on with no output. never know

or if the fault relay was triggered a few times with resonable amount of signal, the relay contacts can get pretty burned up.

check idle current, make sure bias didnt go out or pot is going out.

majority issue was fans going dead, normal effect loop dirty stuff.
or the whole preamp is powered by 4 big dropping resistors and 2 zeners.

like i said check opamp voltage supply. or if your careful at opamp pins.

i forget if they use low voltage for bias on this one like other combos did. so if it dont bias or dont have good opamp voltage usually those big resistors or the zeners

Thank you i will check this out. Wanted to get a second opinion before i strt tearing into it. That helps alot. Ill give update when i get done. May help someone else.
