Ampeg BA-115

Just tried an Ampeg BA-115 solid state combo amp at my local music store with a MIA P Bass and 57 RI P Bass and I was blown away at how good the sound was...

I'm not primarily a bassist so I'm not much of a bass gear snob. I know Ampeg stuff is supposed to be good but I tried another Ampeg combo that was twice the size and twice the price and this little guy sounded way better. Anyone know anything about the BA-115?

I've played through one a few times, GAS'ed for one years ago. They used to be much more expensive on the used market than they are now (I remember them being $300 and more...now I see them going for $200 regularly). Was that the one with the tube preamp or solid state? They had a line of BA-115T as well with the tube pre-amp. I enjoyed it when I played it - definitely a good value for an amp in it's niche.

It's got that EQ knob with 5 presets, I can't remember what they are...mid-boost, flat, etc. etc. It's a great practice amp and definitely for small gigs.

I have a BA115 HP that is the same except it has 220 watts. It also has a built in tuner, a mute button and a DI out to feed the PA system. I use all those features. And the amp itself really does a great job and sounds good. I really like it. Sure, it's no SVT refridgerator but it's easy to move on it's castors. You CAN NOT hook up an extention speaker though. Overall it's a great smallish to medium amp. Oh yea, you can also feed an i-pod into phono inputs on it and plug in headphones.

I'm currently using a BA115 and it has been a very good combo amp. Not a good amp if you have a loud guitarist and drummer. I'm in the process of getting a more powerful rig but I'll probably keep the combo amp for small venues and to play with some acoustic music acts.

I love the tone. I even used it at smaller gigs going direct..does the trick with out any tweaking..well worth the price. Just wish there was a way to get this tone with the bigger set up without breaking the back with a 80lb head.

The Ampeg BA-115 combo is almost $400.00 at Guitar Center and a few other places ( New ) The BA-112*50 Watt ( $300.00) is what I was looking at.. I wanted something between my 20W and my 100W that was lite enough to carry around but had a little kick to it.. Did someone say the Tone of the smaller Ampeg's was great but didn't seem to have any power.. ( loudness ) ?
