Ampeg BA-210 Upgrade

Okay, I have an Ampeg BA-210V2 that I wanted to add a little more grunt to. I know the best way to do that is to add an 8 ohm extension cab. That gets the full 450 watts out of the combo. This is primarily a smaller venue indoor amp and I always have PA support. I have a room full of cabs (Ampeg 810AV, Berg NV-610, Genz Benz 212 Neo). Problem is, they’re all 4 ohms. I like the combo. Last thing I wanted was another cab to lug around. After studying up, I decided to replace the 16 ohm Chinese Eminence drivers with some 8 ohm Eminence CA-1059s. I got them for about what an entry-level 210 cab costs. It was an easy install using existing holes and hardware. The amp gained just under 10 lbs coming in at 57.5. Now for the sound. To my ear, there was a very slight increase in volume at the same settings. It did have some added presence and it didn’t break up. I only got it to 5 on the volume and it was crazy loud. Great low end response as well. Mission accomplished!

A little bit of both. I didn’t expect a big volume increase, although it did slightly. The main change was no breakup as you go upwards in volume. Before, with the volume up around 4 or 5 it would start to break up. Now, it holds tight with tons of low end. It was 285 watts into the 16 ohm OEM drivers and 450 watts into the new 8 ohm drivers. Higher wattage into driver’s with higher sensitivity and frequency response.
