I love the BA series and have a 112 and 108 original series. The 112 is a kickback and the 108 is not. I also have a Micro VR w 2-2x10 matching cabs and a 1998 B100R (USA). Of all of these I like the sound of the BA-112 best. (I think a lot has to do with the 12" speaker which I prefer over the 8", 10" and 15" speakers) Again..just personal taste. I realize everyone is different in their tastes.
I don't play out anymore and play for my own enjoyment to classic rock and country mp3's
Having a serious case of G.A.S. like so many of us I am always looking for the next cool thing and the new BA112 V2 series intrigues me. I have not yet had the opportunity to play through one and wonder how it stacks up against the original one. I don't see the 5 position "style" knob on the new version although the ultra high and low buttons probably give great tone shaping options. I like the 75W vs the 50W on the original.
I'd like to hear from anyone who owns the new 112 to get their opinion of the new version when used under real world conditions as opposed to just trying one out at the music store.
This brings me to my second thought and I wonder how many will agree/disagree with this statement.
"I don't think that I can get an accurate take on the sound of an amp when trying it out on the floor of a music store".
It's usually noisy, the walls are full of hanging instruments and other gear that will reflect sound and most of all you can only spend so much time with the amp in the store. I also think that being in a store inhibits me a bit and I refrain from playing as I would with the amp in the privacy of my home.
In my humble opinion (and in my own case) I can only tell if an amp is a "keeper" after playing it in my home studio/office/man cave where I play all the time. I also prefer to play it over several days or even weeks and spend many hours with it to determine if it's something I want to keep or re-sell.
Music retailers do have return policies but they usually have a time limit for returns. I find the best situation in buying used gear so I can keep it as long as I want while testing it out. I have not seen any BA112 v2's on craigslist in my area.
I value the opinions of other bass players who have real time experience with a given product.
I'm sure there are plenty of players who can buy one off the floor after playing through it for a short amount of time but that just isn't the case for my aging ears.
What's your thoughts about the BA112 v2?
