HI EVERYBODY

YESTERDAY I BOUGHT AN AMEPG BA115 FOR ABOUT 623 DLLS IT IS BRAND NEW, IT'S MADE N CHINA AND IT HAS A HORRIBLE HUM INSPITE OF THER IS NO ISTRUMNET "PLUG IN", IS THIS NORMAL?, IT'S BEACAUSE IT IS CHINA MADE AND NOT AMERICAN? OR *** IS GOING ON? HOW CAN I SOLVE IT?

I got a hum/hiss through my old hartke amp so I just turned down the one of the tone knobs on my Ibanez and it totally went away. So maybe if you do the same or turn down the treble it may work. When I go back to the store this weekend I am going to play it for a while before I buy it.

From what I've read and from my own experience most BA115's hiss. And its loud and annoying, you can disconnect the tweeter or turn down the treble. If its humming then I would have no idea what it is, but either way I'd take it back and have them fix it for you.

First step to solve your problem would be typing in lower case, unless you really, really, really want to shout. ;)

yep, I emailed Amped asking about the hiss on my BA115 and how to fix it, they replied back that I should disconnect it. I was really upset for doing that to a brand new amp. The consequences? when I upgraded my rig, Ampeg was the last thing in my mind.

To the original post:
- there are lots of amps which hum when there's nothing plugged in, but whose hum will go away when an instrument is connected.
- hum is different to hiss, and the words give the sound away - hum sounds like 'mmmmmm' ie a pitched note and hiss sounds like 'ssssssss'. Hum is often caused by interference from other electrical gear, particularly if inadequately filtered in your gear's power supply. Hiss is usually when there's too much treble gain somewhere, a faulty component, or (dare i say it) a poor design.
- hiss normally goes away when you reduce treble, but you might not like the tone afterwards. Hum is more difficult to get rid of once it's in your system but on some rigs can be reduced by turning the gain higher and the master volume lower. This sometimes helps with hiss, too.

Same here. One BA115 was all I needed to to own in order to write Ampeg off my list - if for no other reason the principal behind not wanting to support a company that knowingly builds and sells defectively designed equipment to players that can't afford better but expect better from one of the best known names in the business. The appalling thing is this problem with the tweeter in tha BA115 has been in existence since day one of the BA115 and Ampeg has done nothing to remedy it. That's totally irresponsible on their part.

Really, it isn't that loud. I play small to medium sized venues with my BA115 (with PA support obviously), and usually crank the volume a fair bit, its totally in audible when you're playing, and in between songs, if the bar is quiet enough to hear the hiss from that amp, you're playing a strange strange venue. The only place I think it would be a problem is in a quiet atmosphere such as a church or recording with a mic.

Its hardly as annoying as a big loud 60hz hum and the hiss doesn't come through the XLR output so it should be no problem at all.

Really, this is a great amp for the price and to complain about such a minor thing is grasping at straws for something to moan about.
