Ampeg cabs?

So what happened in 2001?; mdf or ???
I think i remember hearing that some of the cabs
for a period were made fm mdf.
Seems like I remember that also.
One thing to keep in mind is todays picked on gear is tomorrows vintage stuff.
I remember when everyone hated CBS Fenders, guitars and Basses. Leo sold them old tooling, and they wouldn't replace it so they just put out crap for a time. Now those go for $10,000.

I have an Ampeg 8*10 Classic I picked up new back in '98......and I love it, no muddiness at all. I will say that it isn't the most efficient 8*10 I have played through though. With the same amp settings, I found Carvin, and Traynor 8*10's to produce slightly more volume. However, that being said, I still preffer the tone of the Ampeg......hands down.

And NO, It does not sound like the new series of 8*10's by Ampeg at all. I don't quite know how to describe the difference, the new ones just don't have the same upper register detail to them.......but that's just my $0.02.

You did a good job of describing it...the tradeoff for going lower is they don't go as high. Ampeg claims 5k, Eminence claims those speakers do 4k, I think it's closer to 2k.

Hm. I use High highs, and low lows. No mid. Would this be a bad choice of cabs for me?

I owned both the 810 and the 610. I preferred the 610. It sounded more clear to me with a tad more highs, although I agree with the bro that mentioned how the new ones don't sound as good as the older cabs. IMO the new ones sound pretty bad. I'd look at the Aguliar 810 or a 410 and a 115.
