A tosser called specplyr and his buddies is my guess. Good riddance to bad rubbish, they turned that (unmodded) forum into an embarrassment. The real question is what took ampeg so long?

The only thing that REALLY bugged me was that everybody was able to make a STICKY... talk about all but new stuff on top... very unpractacle...

THAT got fixed.....I think it was an oversight, seemed not to be a problem until very recently.

I spotted that and bugged Tommy Wilson..... and it got fixed, just before forum was closed... I hadn't been over there for a long time....

The forum isn't necessarily gone for good, but it got turned off due to a sharp increase in the amount of garbage needing to be cleaned up.

Actually, it isn't really "Ampeg's" forum.... it is the "user's" forum.... And apparently, as usual, a few folks made it too much trouble to take care of.

I don't know that I would want to blame any particular person..... there just seemed to be a growing and troublesome problem.......... and now there isn't one....

    We'll see what happens.

Yes - but are you embarassed about how "troublesome" your users appear to be? ;)

I bet EA users are much more well-behaved!! :D

Apparently the link off the site is down, as it should be, but some content is readable if you deep link.

I suspect that will be fixed, just to finish the job.

In direct explanation, "we", as in specifically the product manager, got tired of the mess caused by a small number of posters, and rather than weed through it, closed it for a while, at least.

Trolls happen. They are a pain. And, they often can get around being banned. So no more "happy space" under the bridge for a while......

Any comments by others as to "getting it shut down" etc, are no doubt "good guesses" as opposed to actions.

In any case, there are plenty of other forums, one of which you are reading now............

Maybe some volunteer moderator action might be in order if/when it is re-opened........

My how we spin...The Ampeg site was shut down due to constant harrassment of me by two indivuduals. Not only did they "troll" me, but listed a newspaper article I was in and pasted my picture Illegaly, even after being asked to stop by the Papers legal office. They altered and ridiculed my pictures, some of which are still up. They violated copyright law.

    Tommy Wilson, from AMPEG, sent me this communication from Ampeg;

"James, your apology is not needed. You really did nothing wrong, I just wish the "hate speak" from everyone wasn't carried out on our forum...actually "your" forum because it is for you guys, not for me at Ampeg. We'll get it back up soon, I just wanted a cooling off period. Thanks...T"

This also was sent to Ampeg.

    "Tommy Wilson,

The Ampeg website forum ( http://www.ampeg.com/newforum/viewtopic.php?p=22618&sid=27593e2e38ea21d4c4dc08b1361fb784#22618 ) contains a Sacramento Bee photograph of James Peak that has been published without our permission. Additionally, this image has been digitally altered without our permission. The Sacramento Bee's photographs are protected by copyright and they must be removed from your website immediately. Our attorney has been notified of this issue.

So, just to be perfectly clear, since now a user of this forum has linked to Ampeg bringing this situation to talkbass, I take responsibility for being a jerk and being pushed into swearing, which I deeply am sorry about, and have appologized about, but as T. Willson states, I really did not do anything wrong. The posters that illegaly posted images of me, ridiculed them, altered them, are part of the reason the site is down. Mr. Wilson wants a "cooling off period".

I have been told the site will be back up after the NAMM show, with moderation.

Notice the forum is still there, they just disabled the home page. Looks like a poor forum though, the key to any good community is moderation, I'm a moderator on two other forums, technical admin for one and I would never trust people enough to leave forums mod free. I can't belive they let people sticky their own posts though, that's just suicide on a an unmoderated forum.

Can you explain "sticky" to me? I posted these often, but just thought they were more visable.

Mr. Tiers, as of today, Nov 13th, they are still posting stickies.

And that would be your best bet. ;)
