Ampeg Heritage vs CL???

The Heritage series should just be peed on (IMO)

I'm pretty sure the Heritage head you are speaking of and the CL is the exact same. The difference you ask? The CL is now made somewhere in Asia while the Heritage is made in the US.

What is my problem with it? Ampeg used to have EVERYTHING made in the US, then then moved production over seas to save money. Understandable. However, then they decide to make the "heritage" series which moves some production back to the US. The problem? A HUGE price jack.

Why should we pay more for the same product we were able to get cheaper 3 years ago?

Lame.

Or, we could read this thread where ampeg reps and people who actually tried the amps at NAMM clearly say that there are component upgrades beyond just the high quality tubes, as well as new design US-made eminence speakers in the cab which contributed to a noticeably improved sound.

As to the OP's first question, the limited run is very limited. Something like 250 heads, 350 8x10 and 500 4x10s, I can't recall the exact numbers but they're in that thread linked above.

IMO the heritage is not worth the cost. used CLs can be had for $900 - 1000 which is a good price for what you get. You'll be happy with its tone. Its loud and cuts through rock bands with a knife. I prefer the VR and vintage but its a bit of a price jump. I don't think the heritage is what its cracked up to be. Keep in mind these are "assembled in the USA".

i doubt you'll find much of a difference with the head but i'm interested in hearing what kind of difference there is with the cabs. the loud cabs froim vietnam and korea are actually a lot better sounding than the last batch of slm cabs from 2000 till the loud sale, at least imho. but as the owner of a 73 straightback with cts alnicos, there's room for improvement in the newer cabs. and look, it may be shallow, but that black sparkle grillcloth looks really nice ;)

I doubt that anyone can make a definitive decision until the actual production units are available to A/B next to standard units.

If I was Ampeg, I would have had ultra tweakend units at NAMM.
Do you trust the company enough to be dead certain that these units have EXACTLY the same components and assembly as production units?

Considering that they're only producing 250 of the heads, I think it would be a bit much to think that they were making one or two "special" ones for NAMM, especially given the fact that very few people actually go to NAMM in comparison to the overall target market.

If the Ashdown cab sounds good to you, then it will sound great with an SVT of any kind.

also this guy had a mid 80's american made fender precision bass....almost flawless serial number in the E's, I knew fender went through some changes via CBS selling out...do you know if this would be a nice bass? and how about the neck? fat and bulky or thin and wide? if you have any info~ thanks in advance
