Ampeg Micro CL cab upgrade

Hi,
I have an Ampeg micro CL stock cab and I think of upgrading the drivers, instead of buying another 2x10 cab. I don't want to raise the wattage too much though. I like the Celestion TF1020 with 150 watts/8Ω and 97db sensitivity. Of course this will make for a 4Ω total impedance. I search for 16Ω drivers, but not much at the moment.
What you guys think? Any suggestions?
Is there anything else I should know, or I just replace the drivers, with the right polarity, and that's it?

"Raising the wattage" of a cabinet isn't a thing.
You don't know if the speakers you're buying are appropriate for the cabinet.
You're better off buying a different cabinet than replacing the speakers.

I agree. A cabinet and speakers are a system that is designed to work together. If you change the speakers, you change the system and may get inferior performance.

you'll ruin the cab and the head. sell it until you do this. and get a microvr and two cabs.

microvr supports 4 ohms, but not the microcl. you can theoretically use it with some big but strictly 8 ohm cabinet, but I'd sell the "stack" if it's not enough for you. get a proper amp that can handle two cabs at this point.

I had a consideration about the volume/speaker issue. I thought about asking Ampeg, what would be an upgrade for this cab, but maybe it's not worth the fuss. Buying another cab is the easy and right solution. I can find excellent cabs at excellent prices second hand...so, I will go that way.

Been a PF20T owner happy with the result matching with Fender Rumble 115 cab.

You can bring the Micro CL to nearest guitar store a try if there are Rumble 115 cab available .

Save your money. Changing the speakers won't be a significant improvement (and might make things worse).
Get a small cabinet that you really like. There are many to choose from these days. Shop used.

There's no real point in 'upgrading' this amp. Spend your money buying something stronger and louder.

In bass guitar cabinets, these are NOT like upgrading guitar amp speakers in an open back cabinet: The speakers are selected by engineers to work together with the cabinet. Taking a guess on speakers you 'like' most all the time turns out to be money wasted, despite what the 'net may tell you. Much less on what is basically a practice or coffee shop amp at best.

I'd plan to spend money in a more productive fashion.

There really is no “upgrade” for that cab.
Upgrade requires a known positive improvement in performance.
It would be blind testing.
Which may lead to a positive experience , or to a negative experience.
Save some $$$
Get a different cab.

If you don't know what you're doing, the chances are really good that a speaker swap will be a downgrade.

If you do know what you're doing, you don't need (and wouldn't ask for) our advice.

I don't believe the Micro CL can handle 4 ohms so I would avoid this to not fry the amp.

These will work in that cab, but not sure its worth the investment.
