Ampeg Micro Vr but Louder?!?

Best I can tell the ABM's used MOSFETS.
From the web:
"Yes both the Ashdown ABM and MAG ranges use the same Mosfet output stage, and which are uncannily similar the the Trace Elliot amps, even using the same mosfet devices at times. No surprise there as they are all designed by the same chap, Clive Button. Trace did go through a bipolar phase for a while, but this didn't really work well as they had a habit of going pop due to a weak earthing point inside the amp, causing instability in the output section."
There was another post that said only the early British ABM's used MOSFETS but mine made in China does too.
Well luckily I have a made in UK ABM 500 EVOii. So I'd love to try using that power amp.

The power amp of the Ashdown is just so muddy in the low end dept. Anyone know of a mosfet power amp that's around 500 what's that is small enough that I could stuff into the bottom of the micro Vr. I guess I'm trying to do what the guy in this thread has in his modded VR with the ashdown little giant power supply. But without actually modding anything. I'd love to literally just mount a power amp into the bottom of the micro Vr chassis. Dunno if something that exists.

So this is what I can't understand.
Technically the power amp in your Ashdown and Mesa should be designed for flat performance.
What goes in comes out at a higher output.
I believe both these amps use a MOSFET power section although the Mesa does have a driver tube for that amp; but not sure where it is located relative to the effects loop.
Maybe the amps are flat and there is an impedance mismatch causing a difference in freq. response?

They Ashdown and Mesa definitely sound different with the Micro Vr. Not sure why. Maybe the difference in wattage/manufacturer of the power amp makes it sound different. I assumed the same thing as you. I was going to find a pf-350, But I may try the pf-500 or pf-800 so that A) I can use the micro VR into their power amp for a more wattage version of essentially a pf-350(which is same preamp as the Micro Vr with a class D power section). And B.) ill always have a backup amp of some sorts.

Thank God it's not just me.
Had the same experience with an Ampeg SVP pre amp into the effects send of an ABM500, GK MB800F, and a SWR SM400.

I think you need to try the PF350; if that sounds good you know it's the preamp and not the MOSFET power amp.
Maybe try a PF500 too?
I'm going to guess that if you A/B them you will like the VR better assuming volume matching.
If so, and only since you use two cabinets, buying a second VR might a good solution.

I won't leave the house without 500 watts these days because I want headroom.
Another option is to find a bass head that gives you the vibe your after or try a true power amp like a QSC, Crown, or Crest with the VR line out.

Many will say get a SVT 3 or 7 Pro. They never worked for me.
The 4 Pro kills but it's heavy!

The PF350 is a perfect match. The micro VR is like the SVTH350, mostly just a plywood box for looks. I don't know why they didn't just use the exact amp in the 350 for the Micro's but the pre-amp is the same.
I think the power amplifiers are different.
PF350 is class D
Pretty sire the SVT 350 is class A/B.
