Man, stopped at GC on the way home to try one of these...
I'd seen them there before, and actually tried the Acoustic version of this combo (1x10). I wasn't too thrilled about the Acoustic mini stack, and bypassed trying the Ampeg micro stack because of the price tag.
All I can say is "Wow" it sounds REALLY good. It does a really good job of sounding really close (although more "open") to a SVT Classic/810 rig (there was one right next to it that I played for a comparison). Obviously, it wasn't as loud, nor as bassy, but I'm not really looking for loud. (Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of volume - I'm sure everyone in the GC could hear me when I cranked it up).
If I was paying full price, I'd go with a GK-MB210 combo (tried that out as well - what an unbelievably light combo!), but because of this deal, I'm going to be picking up two of these micro combos. I think it'll sound really even better with two of the 210 cabs. If I sell the extra head, and combine that with the rebate, I can probably walk away with just spending $150 + shipping on what would normally cost just under $1K (I'd never pay that much on this little thing though - maybe if the head had a bit more power it'd be worth it).
It may not be gig worthy, but it'll sure be fun to practice with it. I think the 210 will go well with my Ampeg 4x8 cab and my GK 800RB head that I use for gigging. I may even have to see how that micro head sounds through those two cabs (I have a feeling it'll sound awesome). Either way, it's exactly what I need for noodling around the house, and for rehearsal. Best of all I'll save my back from hauling around my other gear.
