Ampeg or Fender?

Hey guys, I need some advice. Lately I've been thinking about getting a cab/head combination. Recently I came across a used Ampeg 610HLF for $689. (on consignment). It looks and sounds really good. Has slight tear on back right corner. Also, it is MIA.

I've also been eyeing the Fender 610pro which I have not heard (can't find a shop that carries it), but have only heard good things about the newer Fender bass amps. It does however, go for 1099. new

What to do?

Are you asking about a Fender head with an Ampeg cab? The price on the 610 seems high to me, and I'm unfamiliar with the new Fender pro's, other than the TPB-1 preamps, which rock. Or, what exactly are you asking?

Sorry about the confusion. I am asking about two cabs (no heads). The Ampeg is on consignment and the Fender is new. What do yo think would be a reasonable price for the 610hfs? I'm really not up on prices.

You mean an Ampeg SVT-610HLF cabinet? (I'm not familiar with any 610 "hfs".) If so, MF sells them new for $1,000. A great deal on a used one would be half that: $500. But in the real world you're probably gonna end up paying about 2/3 for used, good-condition Ampeg gear. So that $689 price is about what is expected, but not a great deal.

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah, 610's in general ain't too cheap, but I've seen the Ampeg's for around 500. The Fender's haven't been out too long, but what I've heard, it's great gear. Personally, I'd hold off for a better deal, but if you have the $$$ and need it now, go for it.

Yeah, I'm not in any hurry. I was just wondering if I was passing on a good deal. Personally, I would really love to find a shop in eastern PA that carried Fender bass amps and heads. So I could compare.

those Fenders pro cabs look amazing and yeah, i've heard nothing but good things.

have you tried both? do you have enough $ for the fender?

if you could get the Ampeg for $500 or less get it, it's also an amazing cab.
