Ampeg PF-800: First Impressions

The Pf800 has had very few problems reported on here since it came out, and Ampeg has been excellent about taking care of those who have problems. I don't always use mine, but I take it to most of my gigs and it always performs.
Jimmy,
I really appreciate your quick response. You are among the most active , consistent and helpful commentators. Thanks again.

Well if it makes you feel better, I've got almost 2 years on my PF800 and it's been a total tank.

Two years and three months with mine --with two PF115LF drivers under it --and it's been 100 percent reliable.

I am interested, though, in what types of amp settings you Jazz Bass players out there use with it, to really bring that Jazz quality out. I have a Schecter Diamond J-5 (which qualifies as a Jazz Bass) and would like some pointers.

My experience with the PF800 was very poor. I'm a HUGE Ampeg fanatic and was stoked to get it and jam but it lasted 2 1/2 practices before it quit putting out sound. A bit of smoke and a burning electrical smell. Environment was dry, compression was noon, volume was 3, gain was about 9:30, maybe a little less. Through a 4x10 Ampeg cab no less. I'm currently exchanging for a Bugera BV1001T, which I'll have to try out for a final verdict but as of now I'm skeptical on how I'm going to like the tone.

Whoa, smoke and burning electronics? That's pretty major; did you ever find out exactly what caused that?

I’ve just purchased a new PF800 and will be using it with my SVT212AV cab

They do sound amazing amps and I’m hopeful it’s going to be 100% reliable as I will be using it for regular gigs

Will be updating my profile picture soon too !

My pf800 has been flawless since purchased new 4 or 5 years ago. Used it on small, to medium, to large outdoor stages as well as the studio. It's always delivered.
