I Just finished porting my PF115HE extension cab, so I started a new thread to cover all the mods I'm making.

My son bought an 8x10 fridge to use with his PF-500 when gigging (uses the PF-115 for rehearsals). He never had any issues with the 8-ohm 115 but it started cutting out into the 4-ohm 8x10. Replacement head is on the way from Ampeg.

The original head is from June 2011 and, while they claim to have made no changes, it is a somewhat earlier-built head.

He is using my head for now, which is from November 2011. Same settings, same active basses, same 8x10 cab, NO ISSUES at this time.

Same story, but with a 610HLF. Did you ever try the gain first fix? I haven't had a chance to yet.

GregT, is your avatar a picture of the mating ritual that led to these?

It might very well have been if it weren't for the fact your Fender Mandlolin is decades older than my two Fenders who happen to be getting along very well as you can see. I remember when those mandolins came out. You're pretty lucky to have one. And in that condition! The avitar is just a reference to playing both bass and guitar.

How can you tell the date/month of manufacture for these PF heads? I have seen some references to Ampeg/Loud using a new 17 character serial number code, but they don't appear to match what I'm seeing on my PF500. Mine is PF500ANDL01xx. My best guess is that the "D" is for 2011 (since A=2008, B=2009...) but I have no clue how the month might be embedded into this number. I thought at first that the "L" might be 12th month (Dec.) until I looked at my matching cabinet, which has ANDO. (where character after the D is a letter "O", not number "0").

Anybody know how to decode this number?

Then, does anyone know the approximate date when the "new" circuit mods went into production?

I don't think anyone has absolutely verified that there were any changes made in the cicuitry. Maybe JimmyM knows or can get the correct information.

This is my assumption as well. There are lots of questions, and "accusations" of changes, but nothing concrete. It even sounds like Loud techs have differing opinions.
If Jimmy hasn't heard maybe he can ask one of the Loud techs who KNOWS the answer to offer some input.

I've posted on this thread several times about the first 2 of the 3 of my PF500 units cutting out. The 3rd one is still a charm. I've been cranking the crap out of it too... at both 4 and 8 ohms. Guess they finally sent me one of the "new ones" the last time around? At any rate, 4 months later and still going strong.

I only endorse Ampeg. I don't work there and don't speak for them on any official basis. I find out everything at the same rate that you guys do. But it does seem like whatever was happening has gotten taken care of, since people are rocking their replacements well for the most part.

However, if I remember correctly, the new LOUD serial numbers only tell you the year of manufacture. The 12th digit in from the left should be a letter, and it's very much like the SLM system except it starts over in 2008:

A = 2008
B = 2009
C = 2010

Etc. etc.
