Ampeg Portaflex 500 problems

Yikes... My main amp is a PF-500. About 6 years old now. It has shut down on me at two sunny outdoor gigs, due to temp overload, but I was able to get it to restart when I pointed my small stage fan at the back of it. I'm a fan of the Ampeg tone stack, and I'd be sad to see it go... Anyway, I'll be sure to bring a backup from now on. Thanks for the head's up, and good luck finding a new amp that you love.

I acquired a dead Portaflex 500 about 7 months ago free from the music store I was working at at the time. It was a used item, and when it stopped working they simply let me keep it.

Do you (or anyone else... @JimmyM @beans-on-toast @agedhorse ???) happen to know what the common fault was with the seemingly common PF500 meltdowns? I’m hoping it will be repairable on the cheaps.
