Ampeg SVP-CL preamp into Portaflex 800 questions

Hi,
Ive been running the SVP-CL into the front of the PF800 head and have a couple of questions.
1. Should the master on the SVP-CL be set higher than the master on the PF800 ?

2. Would it be better to run the SVP-CL into the effects loop on the head rather than the front ?

I would absolutely run it into the effects loop.

Plug into the PF800's fx return with an instrument cable. The master volume is an attenuator. Figure out which master works best for you, leave the other on full if you can. One approach is to turn both on full and use the gain to control the overall volume.

I love the sound of both the SVP-CL and the PF, Im using the SVP-CL to add an extra layer of to already great sounding PF rather than using the PF as a poweramp.

I do that with some amps as well. More tonal flexibility is good. You just have to watch the level of the first preamp so that it doesn't overdrive the PF800's first stage into clipping distortion.
