I just bought one of these yesterday. It's my first tube amp and I was curious if there is any helpful advice anyone would care to give regarding this pre or tubes in general.

I've had mine for a few years now, great classic clean Ampeg sound. Low output to the power amp. I've swapped a few tubes but didn't hear much difference really. Sovtek, Rubys and groove tubes. My SVP-PRO has Philips JANs in it and it sounds fantastic but I haven't tried them in the svpcl. Hope you enjoy it, it's a nice preamp.
A preamp with tubes in it is no big deal to take care of, no more than any other amp, really. Every now and then you might need to change a tube out, but it's not a big deal to do so and it's not something you need to do on a regular basis.
Well I don't own an SVP but MY advice would be to KEEP IT AND NEEVER LET GO and if you do then get a hold of me lol
Along the line of preamps, if I have a tube amp and then run Ampeg's preamp pedal through it will it sound like an Ampeg tube amp? I assume no but if it does that would be sweet
