Ampeg SVT 2 Midrange Selector-Proper Use

With this amp I pretty much keep everythign at noon, bass boosted a bit and treble slight boost and it sounds awesome. And Im not much of an amp fiddler anyway. I understand that the midrange selector allows you to adjust the mids under 5 dff frequencies, correct?

However I dont actually "understand" this, and it doesnt really sound dramatically differerent to me between the 5 differect positions. Am I mid range deaf? Anyone have a mid selection/mid knob setting that I could try that I may find sounds good? I play mostly rock/punk. Could there even be something wrong with the selector and thatswhy I cant hear major differences?

SVT-2 manual on Ampeg's website should have "suggested settings" for different genres. Could see what they have for the rock setting.

Roll back your bass and treble a substantial amount and boost the mid-range if you want the change to be more apparent while you get used to where those frequencies are. And if you think your amp sounds good now, why are you asking for a setting that sounds good? Your settings are going to be dependent on the rest of your rig as well.

From what I understand (I have an SVT-CL myself) the mid-range selector and level knobs works as a cut/boost. When you leave the midrange level at noon, you're neither cutting nor boosting mids. So when you switch between the different midrange frequencies, you shouldn't hear any difference.

However, if you boost your mids to, say, 3:00, you should be able to hear a discernible difference when you switch the mid frequency knob to different positions. I've tried this before and it does indeed work.

Yep. And with a slight boost in bass and treble, that's about their recommended setting for Rock.

Setting an Ampeg tube tone stack at noon might sound great, depends on which Ampeg and also depends on the sound of your bass. But don't expect noon to be flat, and don't be afraid to tweak it "off center".

Yes. Seriously, like the previous posters suggested, boost the mid knob to about 3 o'clock and switch between the 5 settings. You should hear a big difference.

Punk and hard rock? Dime the bass and mid knobs, mid setting 4. Adjust your input gain, and set treble to taste.

Or turn on UltraLo and Bright together, and boost mid setting 1. Mmmmm, chuggy.
