I just realized the word "ampeg" is missing from my number 247 that I posted a photo of earlier. I think I had a sticker on there for a long time that pulled the lettering off when I removed it.

Ampeg SVT 2 Pro gets really hot

Something else just occurred to me.
I also have owned couple of SVT II Non-Pros and they never had issues with getting too hot. My guess is that the straight line arrangement of the 6550's in the non pro (right in the back of the amp) allows more of the potential heat to dissipate.
Anyway - I still think a Pro-II is fine with an extra fan.

Good news! On yesterday's gig (2 1/2 hrs), the amp got very warm, but I could easily rest my hand on it, the face plate was just warm, and the inner side of the Gator case's top stayed totally cool! Master volume was at around 12'o clock, the drive control at the same position, and my '75 P Bass (equipped with EMG GZR's) sounded so damn good, that I didn't touch the other basses ('73 Jazz Bass & Squier CV P-Bass)! ;-) Tonights gig might get a little louder (no PA, larger club), but I think the heat issue should be solved!
Last night's gig went flawlessly as well. I pushed the amp quite hard, and once again, it sounded so sweet! I would say that it didn't get warmer than the night before. I let the fan on, after switching the amp completely off, for less than 10 minutes, and it was completely cool when I put my equipment into the car! Very good!

I have the same amp,Prem edition in the same rack,i drilled a few holes in the rack where the fan is and it's never been a problem,in fact i got one of the band guys to go close to the section i drilled with a fag he was smoking,just for a second,and i could see the smoke being drawn in,so i know it worked!!i would never sell mine,all the best.
I played through many CL and traditional SVT heads (backline stuff) and I really have to say, that I love the 2 Pro's drive control. With it, the SVT crunch gets even more prominent, without the need of turning up master volume too high! This amp feels so natural and inspiring while playing, and it adds so much to MY sound!

Ewwww...even though I smoke (working on quitting so shut up everyone), the thought of doing that doesn't appeal to me after spending hours cleaning the tar off my 69 SVT a few years ago.
That's what that kid in 8th grade said when he gave me a cigarette. 40 years later...

I know prices are considerably higher over there, but if you can swing a Heritage 810e, do yourself a favor. The regular 810e's a great cab, but the Heritage is really something special IMHO.
What's the difference? I believe that with the amps, the difference with the heritage is the tubes, correct? So what makes the heritage cab better?
For the Heritage SVT, tubes, thicker PCB's, and as of mid-2013, upgraded power tube retainers that clamp the base instead of those big springs (available as an upgrade from Ampeg that fits any CL or VR SVT
). The improvement with the Heritage cab is better speakers that, for my money, sound about identical to the speakers that came in the original flatback 810's of 69-74. I'm very hard pressed to tell the difference standing them side by side.
I usually buy used gear. The prices for new stuff (Ampeg, Fender, Music Man, etc.) are quite high here in Germany, compared to what you guys in the US pay for it!
For around 850-900$, one can find used US made SVT810 E's and newer Vietnam made (?) AV's (which I'd prefer for the cooler vintage optic) quite regularly here. A new Heritage costs 1800$.

I am a working musician, so its pretty clear, that the Heritage stuff (the B15 is sooooo sweet) is out of my price range! ;-)
But I think, the E (US made) or a more recent AV (they are made in Vietnam, right?) should do the job as well! Is there any difference between these two cabs, other than their look and the country they are made in?

OH YES!
First, the E and AV are the same except for cosmetics. But cabs made in the US are mostly made with OSB instead of real plywood like they have been since 2006, and the speakers in US cabs from 2000-2006 are considerably darker sounding than the rest. The 810e and av are now made in China and were only made in Vietnam from 2007-08, but they all are made with plywood and have better sounding speakers than the 2000-06 810e and av. For those reasons, I would only get one made in Vietnam or China, unless of course you can go Heritage. But honestly, the 810e is plenty good as is...the Heritage is better but I have no real complaints about the newer 810e/av's.
