Ampeg svt 3 from 03 opinions please

Mine is out in the garage.. if you want i can take some pics this week and post the non pro 3 version for folks to see. i guess they are rare.
I got mine way back in the early 1990s.. it has never failed and still sounds great when last played.. about a year ago..
its only 200 watts into 8 ohms.. 350 @ 4 ohms.. but it sounds so darn nice...
The bright button acts the way the bright button does on the SVT2 non pro... which is different than th epro version of the 2 and 3 pro..
and the DEEP switch sound nicer and differnt than the pro version too.
I never used the Graphic EQ in mine..

Oh the SVT3 non pro is Bipolar Transistor output where the 3 pro is MOSFET.. i dont think i added that earlier...
I will say that the preamp in the 3 non pro sounds great through a high power crown amp....
so as i am writing about this to answer another posters question i realized that i have seriously derailed this thread and i apologize.... back to programing unless the OP doesnt mind..

Thx for the breakdown, Kirk. It's odd but the Ampeg book gives it very short shrift, and so few people have played them. All they say is it had 350w and was a hybrid. Nothing about the PT or EQ points.

I bought mine a few years ago from Kirk (svtb15 on TB) and it is still doing well. I may change one of more of the tubes snce there is a slight noise that goes away after the amp is on for a minute or 2. Mine looks identical to the pictured one. I'll have to PM JimmyM to see if he can tell me exactly how old it is since I can't find the info anywhere on the internet.

I've had my SVT-3Pro for approaching ten years now and it has been bomb proof! If it has a flaw I think that it has such a large number of tone controls that it is almost too much. Take the time to learn the controls, what they do, and don't over do it and this amp can sound wonderful. I've seen kids turn everything to ten and that is a bad thing and not how this amp sounds its best.

Alright head...i found the later ones a little bland. Sounded a little dull. Not enough volume at 8ohms...

But,,,for the price, they do the job
