Ampeg SVT 4 Pro Peak light

I have a 14 year old Ampeg SVT 4 Pro. Recently I started experiencing a problem where the peak light is always on (even with 0 gain) after only a few minutes of playing. After a spot of research I found this is a safety feature to protect against overheating. I took it to an engineer who has repaired a number of dry joints.

Now here’s the issue. He says the board works when it is out of its housing but as soon as he reseats it the fault reoccurs. He’s had several attempts to fix this but can’t. So I’m in for a new board.

Two questions anyone know the board I need and where I can get one in the UK. Or alternatively anyone had any experience like this and can suggest any other fix/remedy?

I love this head and don’t want to give it up.

Thanks,

Byron

Before you do anything, contact @hodgy , who is Ampeg's CS guru and has tons of experience with 4 Pros. He doesn't usually check on here during the weekend, but will pop in from time to time during the week. There is also contact info on Ampeg.com . If you end up needing a board, your UK distributor is Invalid Link Removed .

Thanks very helpful. I’ll see what @hodgy says but the distributor contact could be really helpful too.

I’m having a similar issue with the svt 4 peak light. Except, I’m getting a static crackle sound thru the speaker cab when the red light comes on. Light only comes on when I turn it past about 1 o’clock. It just started doing this recently. Is this a sign that something is starting to fail ???

Maybe. I always suspect a preamp tube when something like this happens. But it might be something else.

I had similar problem with peak light staying on. I would completely loose all sound when this happened. I removed all of the circuit boards and with my magnifying visor examined each solder joint. I re-soldered 3 obviously compromised joints but still had the problem. After rolling in a dozen or so tubes I noticed the sockets were getting loose. I took an exacto knife and pried each terminal in the sockets on both sides until they were noticeably tighter visually. Replaced the tubes and that fixed my issue.
