Ampeg SVT-410HE older 200 watt version?

New to bass from guitar and just picked up a older Ampeg SVT-410HE off Craigslist for $150. Its almost perfect cosmetically and has the casters included. 8 ohm 200w handling. Non-fridge style. It is the older version only rated 200 watts. No speakon connectors. I am guessing 1990’s from what I could gather on the forum. Serial # came off when I was cleaning it and cannot make it out now. Doh! Its in excellent condition and makes sound. No buzzes or rattles. I pulled the grill cloth and the speakers look perfect. I pulled a speaker and not much info. Nothing on watts. Just 32 ohms each.

I have read a bunch here on the forum and have seen stuff posted like……..Made of OSB or MDF not plywood from that era, it has the same speakers as an 810 model, it needs to be pushed to sound good.

?#1 Does this model really have the same speakers that came in the big 810 cab? My concern is that these were non fridge and there was an Ampeg solid state mosfet head around that time that looked like an SVT tube head cosmetically shape but was a much cheaper solid state mosfet head that was rated 200 watt at 8 ohms and 350 watt at 4 ohms. So I am wondering if this cab was a cheaper lower quality cab made for the solid state mosfet head and wondering if cheaper different speakers were used. If any one knows the answer I really would appreciate the information on this!

Good or bad really depends on your needs.

You said it sounds good so the most important factor is in your favor.

For what I do, 200w power handling is a bit lean but I know a number of bass players who only use heads in the 100w range, so this cab would be perfect for them. What head will you be using to drive it?

I used to own one of the ‘n’ versions with the Speakon connection and 500w. Great cab, took many years of severe punishment well, heavy in the typical ceramic driver 410 way.

I only played it for a little bit to test speakers and make sure no buzzes or rattles. I will have to test it out with time to see about the tone.

I will be using a Bugera Veyron. The tube preamp one. Over inflated output of 2000w 4 ohms and 1000w 8 ohms. From everything I gather Bugera peak power is 4x actual handling so more like 500w-4 ohms and 250w 8 ohms.

That is why I was wondering if these were the same speakers that came in the regular 8-10 large fridge cab or if these were inferior cabs with lower power handling speakers that were matched with the solid state mosfet head that was 200w 8 ohm 350 w 4 ohm. I trust a speaker that could handle the tube watts of an SVT tube head more than if this was for the low end solid state head.

I have a Bugera BN115 cab that is rated at 1600 inflated watts but is likely 400w so not worried about if I use both cabs but wondering if these are the same speakers in the 8-10 cabs or not cause if they are cheaper less power handling then the Bugera amp could damage them.

Thank you! I did read that thread when I was searching around a few days ago. Thats part of why I am confused. He mentions the SVT-410HE at higher watts and the B410HE at 200 watts but mine clearly states SVT-410HE then 200 watts on the panel.

So I am trying to find out if these are the same speakers used in the 8-10 and 4-10 mini fridge or was this a lower cost economical cost cutter similar looking that went with the cheaper solid state mosfet SVT looking head that only put out 200-350 solid state watts at 8 or 4 ohms.

I am new to bass but 300 power tube watts of an SVT would seem like it would be far more powerful than 200-350 solid state watts of the budget SVT looking wanna be entry level head that was a cheap alternative to a real tube SVT head.

I may not get my answer and thats ok. Its a few decades old. My guess is 1990’s. Like a dumbass with OCD I like to clean any used gear I get very well to make it look nice and to get the dirt, cat piss and roach eggs off. I also like a nut touch up with a black sharpee and super glue any tolex tears to make stuff look as good as possible them beat the poopie out it myself. Lol. Anyways, in the process of cleaning some grime off this cab I used an alcohol wipe and it pulled off the small serial number sticker and basically almost melted it so its gone forever. If there is another easy way to date these it would be great to know. Even a year range when they had the 200w cabs.

I will probably just play thru it and see if the speakers start to fart out at a particular volume setting and be careful starting at 1/2 on the amp volume dial. I only paid $150 for the cab so I am ok taking a chance and pushing it a little.
