Ampeg SVT 5 Pro, Yes, No ?

I know I am probably going to regret doing this, but in that rare elliptical orbit around the Earth that I travel, I’ll do it anyway. No, I don’t really need one, I have tons of other stuff. Do I want one Yes. Not sure why. Bucket list stuff I guess. So that all said, let me take an educated guess on what the responses will be.
1. This is a really great amp, and I have used one for years with no problems.
2. This Amp really sucks, I had three of them, all sent back for repair, never could get the problem solved, finally sold it, and was glad I did.
3.I don’t know why you need a two channel amp in the first place, you are obviously doing something wrong.
4. Brand XYZ is ten times better, and it only weighs 2 pounds.
5. Ampeg never made anything worthwhile, you are obviously insane and crazy.

Please be careful with reply number 5, just saying. Yes I know where most of the used ones are currently located, and the prices, etc. Looking for owners personal experiences here.

I have a SVP-BSP preamp that I pair with an SVP-1600 power amp. Besides lacking the crossover and octave control, I've been happy with it.

I am looking for the 5 Pro for features, not power. Have an SVT 6 pro, SVT 4BH, and others. All are good, could be just chasing a”Ghost”.

I always dug that amp. The distortion channel was really good iirc.

Rat’s, now I want one more than ever. Negotiating with some people across the pond, so to speak, on some really nice units. Like they once said in an old episode of the “Star Trek” series, “It’s not checkers, it’s Chess. So at this point, it’s their move. Made my offer. Honestly could never play cards worth beans, so what is this issue in Poker terms, raise and call or something. Bottom line here is I have the money, do they have the product.

Greetings to all! Thanks to a fellow TB member, my dream should be coming true this week. 5 Pro is on the way! Gave up on the overseas stuff for various reasons. Prices, cost of getting things into the US, the “Virus” etc. Frankly pushing 70 I just can’t take any chances, besides I have two young Grandchildren. Certainly not going to put myself or them at risk, just because Grandpa wants a new toy. So the Ampeg “Stable” as it were, will be pretty much complete. Version 1 BA 115, SVT 4 BH, SVT 6Pro, SVT 5 Pro. 6x10 and other cab’s, etc. So how does the younger generation make this comment, “I’m Good”. I finally got something right.

It’s nice and all, but nowadays I wouldn’t go down the road of some of these older units unless you have a specific reason to do so. I now own three, bought some others for parts , as some components are no longer made. Keep in mind there is only one tube in the pre amp section on this. Best bet would be to view the Owners Manual online, and see if the features are what you are looking for. Just some advice.
