Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Good evening all.
I’m looking for a little expert/experienced advice if you will…
Tonight at band practice (hard rock/metal) my sound felt un-punchy on the low end so I started twiddling knobs.
I started over, zero’d everything out, pedalboard included, and got my main 3 sounds volume-leveled, as well as resetting my pedal compressor (before amp). With my last set of cabs, I always used just a hair of the 7 Pro’s compression and it sounded great. Turning the Ampeg’s comp completely off resolved my sound issue.
I always ran the 7 Pro’s compression as a safeguard because I run an active bass into the amp’s passive mode for more volume. Heritage SVT 810E is my (new) cab and when comp was on, the yellow thresh light and red peak light lit up fairly often but super faint. Comp off peak light is on a lot:
Am I putting my cab in any danger running at the settings below? (Master & gain at or near half) And should I be running in passive mode and cranking those knobs instead? Anything else to consider? I feel the 7 Pro has more than enough juice and I need that cab to last a lonnnnnng while. Please advise!

Your cab should be fine, imo.
I only use the -15dB pad if a bass is clipping the pre tube too much for my liking, whether the bass is passive or active. And if you're using pedals you can adjust the volume to the amp input of course. So it's more of a tone question than a speaker safety question here.
I'm using similar settings with a 410he, which at 8 ohms would about the same as what you're doing. Haven't had any problems and feel like I could go even louder if I needed to.
Shorter answer, if it seems about as loud as it was before, it's probably hitting your cab with close to the same amount of juice as before.
I would go with -15db if your bass directly into amp (no pedals) gets into clipping territory early. Notice that active tone controls in your bass can boost signal a lot even in flat setting it is not too loud.

I bought one new from around 2 years ago and no issues. The issues seemed to be with the earlier models.
The new models are flawless. You can forget about those reliability issues if you buy one new.
Rev H. But you will never find any other revision new. So you're totally safe.
I will say I just got mine back. I started having weird distortion issues, which seems to be very unusual. That said, you buy one new and Ampeg has a great warranty and will stand by the product. That said, the big fear of the amp overheating seems to be fixed as people had mentioned.
Playing mine with a pair of SVT112AV's as I wanted an easier load in. It works very well for that.
How is everyone carrying or housing your 7pros? Been looking for gig bags or backpacks or something. I've also considered getting a headcase made for it.
For a while I've been using Gator gig bag, but it's almost too big. Ideally I'd like some kind of bag or backpack I could use for cables too.

I used to use a Gator bag that was a near perfect fit, but then I had a tolex box made for it:
4RU SKB hard shell case. I put a furman and my wireless unit in there as well.
Doesn’t solve the cable storage, I just use a backpack for those but, I did some measuring and found a shallow case that is very nice for the SVT 7-Pro + my Furman power conditioner.
You can also get those shallow cases in multiple “U” sizes and possibly install a rack drawer that could hold other things.
Talk me out of a 7pro lol. I’m a total tone chaser that hasn’t even come close to what I hear in my head. I’ve had GK Markbass Traynor and a bunch of preamps over the years but never Ampeg. Geddy on the Fly by Night album is pretty close to what I’m hearing. Mostly clean with a little dirt is fine, not a big fan of distortion. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave
If you never tried ampeg, go for one of their products and see if it's your thing.
