Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

I would love to have a Traynor YBA300, it must be absolutely thunderous!! It's fairly lightweight for a 300 watt all tube head with all the easy self biasing crap easily accessible. If I were to get an all tube head, which I aim to in the future, that is on the top of my personal list!!

I have been leary so far getting one because I have a severe back injury I brought home from my last tour in Iraq, but it's still in the cards!!

How does it compare soundwise with the 7 Pro? (I know the power section is way different, but as far as you can describe otherwise).

That looks pretty sleek. I'd like to get a more classy-looking rack case than my fuzzy felt Grundorf. RacksAndMore.com has some similar to the Carvin.

Did anyone else have a difficult time getting their rack ears on? Two differently-placed pairs of holes didn't line up at all on mine

Mine were a little funny to add on, but not too bad. I kind of wish that it came with them on, but I guess a lot of people would prefer the option.

I have a really old fuzzy Grundorf case for my 3 Pro (which somehow sounds GREAT). I used to have a Sabine rack tuner in the 3rd space, but it gave up the ghost on me. I must admit that I don't really miss it.

I think it's fairly slick looking as well, can't wait until it shows up on Monday!!

Similar yet different o_O obviously the all tube power section of the YBA300 gives it that lush tubey feel. & it's lovely to run into my NV412 sealed cab, as it just oozes vintage tube vibe.
You can get close with the 7 pro, as Jimmy & others have stated, it gets pretty darn close to an all tube SVT.
I find describing tone a sound difficult, but I do find the YBA300 to be VERY similar to SVT-VRs that I've used in rented backlines.
It's got that really forgiving tube compression & sweet overdrive.
Hard to describe, but I really"le le love it.
+ the fact it's comparatively pretty light weight, & has the tube biassing & lockout features. It suits me well.

Suffice to say, I would probably want to have carnal relations with that amp and cab choice.

Although, if my 7 Pro had a little more room...

I really want a GB duelly and it's probably my next purchase from Barry Audio right down the road from me.

...But the Wife?!

great idea, I think the 7Pro should have a Club. No reason to hide or be ashamed of the 7Pro (or any other gear for that matter).

There are many "club" threads here on TB and they are very helpful and generally pretty positive. for instance, I am a long time Mesa Walkabout club member and poster. That thread is in its 8th epic section and folks there have been nothing but positive and supportive of each other and the challenges that come with any piece of gear.

I would ask a question of the "Ampeg folks" in general, and the 7PRo users and supporters. What will you all do if/when someone comes to this club thread and posts that they have a problem or an issue with their 7Pro ? Will you do what most other club thread denizens typically do and honestly listen to the posters problem and offer help, or just excoriate them for daring to post a problem.

I have seen people with straight forward 7Pro problems told by Ampeg supporters that they were lying about the problems with their amp, or that they did not really own the amp in question. This is the kind of stuff that can cause a lot of tension between hard core Ampeg fans and other users.

So, truly, best of luck with the 7Pro club, I have felt that 7Pro users should have this. I just hope you take a lesson from many of the other club threads and be as reasonable and helpful as possible.

Hey PFSchim

This thread is to help people with questions/ problems and to praise the amp for what it is.

It is response to the issues you are expressing that I made this thread. Too often when someone has an issue it quickly becomes a bashing thread. This is what I hope to avoid, because frankly, it's starting to piss me off.

There are problems of all sorts with all amps and other gear, but with the newer lightweight SMPS amps there are a whole new level of issues. It is the new technology in the bass amplification world.

I want to be able to help sort and figure out problems/ and help guide users to better understand their equipment. I really didn't want to be the one to start this thread, but noone else did, and it is time.

The 7 Pro is an AWESOME amp and too many people are being put off to it by the relentless bashing that has been going on for some time. I want to help build a family that assists others in correcting/ diagnosing problems and such so that people can enjoy their incredible equipment without the rampant biases that we are constantly subjected to on the TB forums.

I am no expert but I know there are other people here who are knowledgeable on any and every subject which could possibly pertain to the amp and it's usage. I do however have some practical knowledge through experience. But others are much more experienced than myself and I will bow to their learnedness on these subjects.

I am simply trying to create an oasis of knowledge and brotherliness regarding this amp and it's applications and troubleshooting it's known or unknown issues.

Again, I am not a fanboy or a zealot. I have just become disgusted with the rhetoric which has ended up surrounding this amp on these forums.

This is my contribution. I know that I will get tons of crap for creating this thread for whatever reason. I am not bashing yet immediately had the Mods on my %^& when I started it. If it fails, I really don't care. I will simply delete my account and stop contributing to these forums (in all ways) because it has become something it was not supposed to be.

I come here to learn in an unbiased manner from learned individuals. These individuals are becoming overshadowed by doomspeakers (not the cool kind), and I hope to change this.

I am simply a disgruntled and disabled from combat ex- infantry soldier from the US of A and I have nothing better to do. But damn do I love my bass. And the 7 Pro makes it sound absolutely magnificent. Good night all. It's almost 0500 here and I've had almost too much to drink... Gonna work on that.

I picked up one of theses... Invalid Link Removed

I used 3M adhesive spray and lined it with foam. Works perfect, nice and snug, it's cheap and loaded with the 7pro it's about 22 pounds.

I'm in (number, please). I just gigged mine for the first time last night. In fact, I provided the backline for an entire festival of five different bands. I ran the DI post EQ, with just a touch of bass cut and a little mid boost. Changed gain for each bass to match input level and desired grit, but kept the master volume at about 1/3 through a SWR Goliath III 4x10 (8ohm) aimed cross stage, and the sound was epic! Great grind, and it just kept getting warmer as the night went on. Never had a hiccup, and the engineer was ecstatic with the sound he was getting from me. Every bass player got huge compliments on his/her tone from members of the audience, too, so I think it's a winner.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a preamp tube that will give me a little more clean headroom? With my bass, I run into grit at about 9:00, but can't get any if I pad it. I'd really like to be able to get a little louder cleanly if I can.
