Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Count me in the club. I've had my 7 pro for a few months now and its a keeper. I love everything about this amp and it has been very reliable so far. What i like the most about it is how well it sits in the mix and how warm and tuby it sounds when i hear recordings from our jobs.

My 7 Pro has taken over the #1 spot on my live amp list. It sounds great on my SVT 610HLF. It's scarey on my Epi UL610. no issues whatsoever and our outdoor Southwest Florida gigs can be grueling on us and the equipment. I was on the fence when I got it. But it has earned it's way to the top amongst some formidable competition in my amp collection. Clearly the best sounding digital amp I've played... and I've owned them all. Number please?

I used my 7PRO two weeks ago at an outdoor gig. Where I live summers easily get into the upper 90's/low 100's and the amp performed flawlessly with the sun beating on it for over 3 hours.

I had the same concern of being a little reluctant due to the negativity surrounding the amp but it has exceeded my expectations.

Got a great deal on a re-stock SVT-7 pro. Last week I received my mint condition B0 (most probably received the C limiter upgrade while back at Ampeg). I had a PF500 before and the upgrade was dramatic in terms of tone, true tubey preamp sound and raw power, all of this with the feeling that they share some DNA (which is good since the PF500 sounds sweet as well). I was using a Sonic stomp + EH black finger tube compressor before, and I can't believe that I actually spontaneously unplugged them & quit using them for good. Bass plugged straight in the head. Performed flawlessly so far. Can't wait to receive my Barefaced Big twin cab to pair it with :D

I'd like a number as well please!

I ran the DI post EQ, with just a touch of bass cut and a little mid boost. Changed gain for each bass to match input level and desired grit, but kept the master volume at about 1/3 through a SWR Goliath III 4x10 (8ohm) aimed cross stage, and the sound was epic! I would suggest the same well known headroom friendly swap many TBers suggest for the YBA-200. I personally own a YBA-200 and got spectacular results by swapping the 12 AX7 with 12 AT7s. 12 AT7s are 100% compatible, with a tad less gain. They can provide as much SPL (when you start distording the pre amp stage, the SPL increase gets lower), but the clean headroom band is wider.

The best ones in term of tone (subtle), durability, low microphonics etc are the cryo treated ones. Here is a site that I would suggest:

If you want to minimize the tone difference, I would go with a JJ re-issue. I would personally try the wonderful Tung-sol reissues should you want more definition and sparkle. Both options are about 20-ish bucks.

Best in class are the Genalex Gold lion re-issues. A bit more expensive though.

Don't want a number but I love my 7 Pro. I bought it as a cheap, lightweight backup for my SVT-VR and sold the VR I loved the 7 so much. My old practice space would get 100+ degrees with high humidity and I never had an issue. Been running mine through a Berg NV610, but will be playing it through a Dually soon.

I tend to think that the Dually/ 7 Pro combo seems to be a win for many of us. On my list too!! Thanks for posting Lazerus, your impressions along with others on JohnK's thread have been great reading material to me for quite some time. I'd love to hear mine through that NV610 too, myself.

Last I heard, you had to really love the SVT-7Pro, and I'm just not sure you do. Yes, yes, you went out and bought one after thoroughly testing it, as I did, but how do we know that you really love it, and won't throw it over for some other mistress as soon as something else captures your fancy?

So, the Q/A should go something like this:

[inquisitor] You have to really love the -7Pro
[TB] I do.
[inquisitor] Oh, yeah? How much?
[TB] A lot.
[inquisitor] Right, you're in.
