Ampeg SVT-7PRO

Hello..
Just a question about amps and cabs.. I’m running a ampeg SVT 7pro through 2 Hartke hydrive cabs.. a 410 & a 115 Have had it for about a month now and just had my first live practice... had the gain 3/4 of the way up and the volume 1/2 way up using a musicman 4H stingray bass...had the -15 dB button in for active basses like ampeg says.. cabs r wired with speakon cables in parrellel and this amp was just not loud.?? The drummer easily cut me out of the mix.. if I turn the -15 dB switch off(out) the gain light stays on almost constantly... I’m kind of frustrated. Was hoping this was a amp I could use for years... I’m in a rock cover band and a all original blues band.. the cover band was the live practice today... any advice would greatfully help..

The -15db switch is useless. I've used mine with actives and I've not only never needed the switch on, but I've never overloaded the gain unless I wanted to.

EDIT: Guess that doesn't help you much. But you should be able to get at least some clean gain with it.

But something sounds fishy, don’t you think? Those are normally pretty darn loud amps

Bum tube maybe? I really don't know that much about them. I can tell you that Ampeg CS will be open again on Monday and I would call or email them. Something definitely isn't right. That amp should be able to rupture your spleen in a big enough cab.

That amp should break plaster.

troubleshoot: pop a new battery in the Stingray, check each speaker and instrument cable separately (jiggle them to see if a weak connection as that happened with a speakon I had), try running only 1 cab and see if there is any difference.

Hey everyone... thank you for all the advice.. I did everything suggested.. new batteries is the stingray.. new speakon cables... finally called ampeg seems it’s a bad tube.. had it replaced and using the suggested setting from them... the compressor turned up to 1/4 gain light out... last practice I was too loud..LOL getting the tone I like from it.. I will be using it on the 9th & 10th for the cover bands debut show with me.. but bringing a back up amp just in case.. seems these ampegs don’t like to be bumped around.. thank you everyone..Paul

What happened to your wheels?

Semi ran a stop sign onto a state highway and right in front of me. At 68 MPH, I was able to veer hard right and NOT t-bone the cab of the tractor (my, that passenger has some big eyes!...:D).

But in swerving, I took out 3 large highway signs and bounced over several curbs of the interchange. So, a destroyed front end, windshield, and damage to the undercarriage.

No one hurt, we all walked away, truck drivers sang like birds to the officer taking full responsibility for my accident, which went into the report. Kinda mad about possibly losing my wonderful old SUV, but really can’t complain one bit.

Edit: so NOW I have enough time to look up those cabs. 8 ohms each, that should be a great set of cabs for the 7Pro. Looks like you got things sorted out. Good to hear. Enjoy!
