Ampeg SVT Blueline Club, 68 to early 70's.

Hey Friends,

I am restoring a '72 Blueline, and wondering what you guys recommend for cleaning the faceplate, inside preamp casing, and chassis (we know Jimmy likes windex) lol. I need something that will really make this baby shine again.
Best,

Be very careful, IIRC you can easily end up erasing the blue stenciling.

The tried and true warm soapy water might be your best bet.

As stated be conservative and start with mild soap and water.

I clean the inside of the chassis and circuit boards with 99% isopropyl alcohol. There is a product called Safety Wash that I also use [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Use the IPA with Q-tips and cotton makeup removing pads. All available from a pharmacy. Be careful IPA will remove the black paint on the power amp chassis. If you completely disassemble the pre, scrubbing bubbles type bathroom cleaners do a very good job. Metal polishes are another option.

I usually clean blueline faceplates with come sort of bathroom cleaner, like Jimmy whatever spray is on hand, and a soft brush.

The stubborn ones get removed and are given a very light sanding with fine sandpaper wrapped around an autobody rubber block. I wet sand with a drop of soap to lubricate. This can make it look like new but you have to be very careful. Since the blue is lower in the engraved cutout, it doesn't get touched by the sandpaper. I usually take these measures when there are scratches in the faceplate that I want to remove.

Im looking to get out of the club, this is a great amp, Im just strapped for cash and have one of these to borrow from my guitarist in the band...if anyone is interested in getting one, or another...here is my post in local CL wth pics.:

I didnt sell this...I ended up keeping it, and soooo glad I did, the tone and power is unmatched with anything Ive played...I love this rig.

Help!

I was playing my SVT last week, as normal, when I heard a "pop" (the exact same type that you hear if you unplug from your bass when the amp isn't in standby). The panel light immediately cut off, as did the fan, and it doesn't power back on. No sound, no light, totally dead. Any idea what could have gone wrong? I'm taking it to a tech on Wednesday, but I thought I'd get a preliminary diagnosis.

Make DANG sure the fuse is the right spec first.

My 69 Linden NJ Super Valve Technology head. One of my most prized possessions. I had an eden 4x10 for sale in the local paper in the 90s and a guy called to see if I would trade it for this head.
