Ampeg SVT Half Stack Amp

Just a general question...how would you rate This Ampeg Half Stack. This includes the SVT-3PRO Series amp head and the SVT-410HLF Classic Series bass cabinet? Priced new, it runs around $1,750. Is this a good value or should I be considering something else?

I like Ampeg since I have been using a BA-115HPT Combo, but I am ready to move up. I have to admit, I am not a fan of lugging around 100 pound cabs, but I am looking for a good solid sound. My music is primarily blues/R&B and I am not a slapper/popper.

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

Eh, for a step-up rig, you could do better with less money. The 3 Pro is a good head, but it's not THAT good. Ditto with the HLF, abd the HLF is a really deep sounding cab that can easily sound muddy. It has a lot of fans, but you either love it or hate it.

You could always go used. I find both a good pairing together.

I really like the SVT-410HLF cab. Its the only cab where I actually like the tweeter on it. It is a deeper sounding cab so I don't see a need to add a separate 15" cab for the lows as it is already covered.

I know it says shipping weight is 110lbs but handling weight is 85 lbs. Does that mean when its shipped it includes the weight of the packaging material?

Thanks for the input thus far. I have been looking at the reviews of tha Avatar 4X10 and I can't find any negatives. The price is very attractive, not to mention the weight. At my age, pushing around 20 fewer pounds will probably help keep my back around a little longer.

I think I will probably go with a used Ampeg SVT-CL also. Any tips on things I should be watching out for when buying a used amp?

Again, thanks for the input. I find people who use this forum to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

+ 1 on what sedan dad said. Spend more money on the head. It's easy to find a good used cab. Buy the 3-Pro, and you'll be looking to unload it a year from now. Buy the CL, and you'll be loving it five years from now.

Just make sure it works, maybe ask if the owner ever changed any tubes or caps. Also, if you go with an Avatar, make sure you get 4 ohms. SVT tube amps aren't designed to work at 8 ohms, only 4 or 2.
