Ampeg SVT in a (lighter) form factor?

Get a Mesa 400+ and run the gain low. The Mesa CAN sound way different but I found it to be a high gain SVT. Nothing lost.

I can tell you HONESTLY my Yorkville BassMaster 400 with the gain cranked gets scary close. I mean SCARY. If I had a Sansamp or a VT pedal from Sansamp I know I could almost the exact sound.

Hey the SVPCL preamp is 5 pounds and all tube by ampeg and gets the sound perfectly especially when used with that SVP1600 power amp by them...if you want either im considering getting rid of both of mine and would love to hook up a fellow TB'[email protected]

Lighter than the SVT but hardly light.

That is all relative. I use the V4BH as my light weight alternative...I can lift it on top of my speaker cab without assistance.

Yep but as I said there is about 20lbs difference between the V4b and the V4bh, at least as I understand the specs.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so apologies in advance. Also, I am a guitarist turned bassist, so I'm not "in the know" about all the options out there. So here goes...

I absolutely love my vintage Ampeg SVT and plan on keeping it. However, I don't enjoy hauling it around to gigs.

What's your favorite rackmount (to be used with by berg NV610) or shuttle format (to replace head + cab) to replicate a convincing SVT sound?

If you're also still playing guitar out you might want to consider another solution of using modeling.
Get a lightweight power amp, then add a modeler in front. The Tech 21 VT-Bass is getting some good reviews.
With a laptop you have many options for both guitar and bass. Many free plugins available. Many commercial with demo's you can try. For Ampeg sounds try Ampeg SVX. To customize your own tube amp try Peavey Revalver. Anything you invest here can also be used for guitar and studio work.

thanks for everyone's help. maybe after i'm in the bass playing biz for a while and i get to try different rigs, i may come to change my bias, but the ampeg has spoiled me...i gots to have that tube sound and feel...

so i'm going to try out the mesa 400+. they pop up on ebay on a regular basis it seems, and i've heard people gush about this head with the bergie nv610.
